The Multiplying Church is a primer for pastors and lay leaders involved in, or wanting to learn about, the church multiplication groundswell in North America. It shows how multiplying churches should be a natural, regular function of every church to reach the 70 percent of Americans who have no meaningful church relationship.
Detailing the stories and guiding principles of this dramatic growth, this guide offers insight on:
* Why churches are multiplying in the East but not in the West
* Keys to church multiplication
* The missing link--pregnant mother churches
* Antioch vs. Jerusalem: Which got it right?
* What kind of churches should we start?
* What is the end game of church planting?
* How big does a church have to be to start multiplying churches?
* Church planting movements or Jesus movements?
Bob Roberts helps us return to an early-church model of multiplication where a single church sent laypeople out to plant other communities of believers.

Review
The Multiplying Church teaches us new math by using age-old formulas to accomplish the mission of Jesus. Bob Roberts writes with the wisdom of an experienced church planter and the perspective of a man who has a global influence. If you are tired of attrition and want more than simple addition, then read, learn, and become a multiplying church! -- Dave Ferguson, Community Christian Church & NewThing Network
Any book by Bob Roberts is an event. But this one is even more eventful than his others, primarily because the #1 church planter in North America shares his secrets with the rest of us. Your church, and your soul, can never be the same after reading this book. -- Leonard Sweet, Drew University, George Fox University, www.wickiletics.com
From the Publisher
This is a must-read for pastors and lay leaders involved in, or wanting to learn about, the church multiplication groundswell in North America. It shows how multiplying churches should be a natural, regular function in the DNA of every church. Learn the principles from master multiplier Bob Roberts. Here is powerful hope for the church in America.
From the Inside Flap
Read any research report on the state of the church and you'll find the same results: Christianity in America is on the decline. While evangelism is exploding globally as never before, here in the West it has been slowly but relentlessly fading. Megachurches, emergent churches, house churches...none of our attempts to remake, reinvent, or reconstruct the church has made a difference. What can?
Bob Roberts Jr. is founding Pastor of the 2,500-member NorthWood Church outside of Fort Worth, Texas, which is recognized as a leader in church multiplication. Using the experience at NorthWood, he shows how multiplying churches can be a natural, regular function of every church to reach the 70 percent of Americans without a meaningful church relationship. The focus should be on "church mothering" by imparting the DNA for multiplication in all churches.
Detailing the stories and guiding principles of this dramatic growth, he offers insight on:
* Why churches are multiplying in the East but not in the West
* Keys to church multiplication
* The missing link--pregnant mother churches
* Antioch vs. Jerusalem: Which got it right?

* Church planting movements or Jesus movements?
The Multiplying Church returns to an early-church model of multiplication where a single church sent laypeople out to start other communities of believers. Each new church in turn gave birth to other churches. This approach can make all the difference in your own church's outreach. Instead of individual and occasional church planting, the focus is on continual "church mothering," where the mother church imparts the DNA for multiplication in its church plants. Each daughter church in turn has the potential to replicate itself in "granddaughter" churches, and the process continues.

excellent book on church planting
This is a must read book for church planters. Bob Roberts writes in a very easy to read style but the content is deep. As I was preparing my own book on church planting, I felt compelled to read all the church planting books on the market. This book stood out. It's excellent--pure and simple. I found myself going back to it again and again. Not only is Bob Roberts a successful practioner (having planting approximately 100 churches), he's also a great teacher. His passion can be seen on every page. I also like the way the book is laid out. You won't be disappointed by this book.
Beyond a Model
Took this book w/ me to Nigeria; it was so good that I gave it away to friend who lives there. Here are a couple of notable quotes that stuck with me (I literally left the book with a friend, so these quotes are coming from the 6 pages of notes that I took)...
1. (pg. 43) we are fixated on the harvest, but have forgotten how to water.
2. (pg. 123) mission of the church = mobilizing believers to serve every domain of society.
3. (pg. 129-ish) a feature of the global church is a long term commitment to a specific place in the world until it becomes a sending place...(YES YES YES!!)
4. (pg. 161) give time to what really matters.
Great book Bob...can't wait for #4, my co-workers are waiting on it!

Church Planting For The Next Generation
For years I was searching for some sort of "Acts 2" movement. This book, along with Transformation & Glocalization gives me hope that others are not only thinking the same way as I am, but many are doing it.
Most books on church planting begin and end with a sort of organizational feel. Build a core, raise some money and do some marketing. These things aren't bad per se...But they don't necessarily change the world.
This book give me hope that the Kingdom can be real and tangible. We can make a "glocal" impact, become friends with others with whom we don't share the same theological beliefs and yet not compromise our own beliefs in the process.
So if you want to be convicted, challenged and inspired, do yourself a favor and pick up this book and start walking in the new "flat" world.
