A Scottish laird is trying to find an heiress because his step-mother took off with the family jewels and left his clan broke. We met him as a highwayman in the first book. Heroine is not his first choice of heiresses and he is not her first choice of husbands.

Buy used from: $2.95 Female twins are on the run from their wicked uncle. One dresses as a lad because the uncle is looking for two females. Hero finds them in trouble and decides to help them out thinking they are brother and sister. Pretty funny because hero is attracted to one of the females, when she is in female garments AND when she is in male garments. Poor guy thinks hes going crazy.

Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01 I liked her Fallen Angels series, but this is my favorite Mary book. Heroine went through a lot of trauma in India and hasn't spoken in years. The man she is betrothed to sends his twin brother (the hero) to her to spend time with her family. He is supposed to but his mistress (who he loves) is dying and he doesn't want to leave her. Hero and heroine of course fall in love.

Hero is looking for revenge because he believes the villagers sold murdered his father. He pretends to be a beast making demands on the village (they never see him). Villagers decide to make a virginal sacrifice to the dragon and throws heroine at his front door. He decides to keep her.

Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.93 Juliet is my all-time favorite author (with Tamora Pierce being a close second). I would have every single one of her books on the list, but do not have the room. So I put this, her first one, here. She is very descriptive. Her books are very intense and will definitely put you through the ringer. When I finished reading this one, I was emotionally exhausted.

She blackmails her way onto a ship to get the attention of a boy (not the hero) she fancies herself in love with. Well, the captain isn't took happy with it, but as they start to get to know one another, the more and more they fall in love.

Heroines father was physically abusive and her brother is starting to follow in his footsteps. Heroine is afraid and mistrustful of all men. H/H have to marry and even though the hero has a bad reputation, he is very slow, patient, and understanding towards the heroine. Good, good book.

The heroine "saves" the hero and is kidnapped by him (although she wants to go with him more than she wants to stay with her brother). The other books I love by Julie are The Secret, Ransom, For the Roses, and the Claybourne brides
