From the Manufacturer
A popular square with machinists, toolmakers, and patternmakers. The sliding blade is adjustable, making it more practical for a wider variety of uses than a common square with fixed blade.
Customer Reviews
double square vs combo square
I own both and use the double square 'twice' as much as the combo--just feels better in your hand, and it is practically indestructible if dropped. Changing the blade orientation requires you pushing up on the tightening mechanism and holding as you insert the blade groove. It would be nice to have a 1/8th--1/16th marking on both sides. I rarely have a need for the 1/32-64th markings.
Love this Square
I spent years building projects using the standard "sort-a-square" you find at the hardware store. I always thought the Starret's were ridiculously priced and I refused to buy one. Needless to say many a project was almost perfect. Finally broke down and bought my first Starret Comb Square a few years ago and ever since it is the first layout tool I reach for!
I have the 12" combo square and this 4" Double Square. I love how accurate these squares are! They may seem on the pricey side but they are the most accurate and most used tools in my shop! The 4" never leaves my side.
Excellent layout tool
I am a professional cabinetmaker and I would highly recommend this tool for anyone that needs accurate layout and checking machines for square. I have had other squares that were adequate, but this tool is the best there is.
