Amazon.com Review
First popularized by Daniel Goleman in his book Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ, the concept of emotional intelligence is now widely accepted, not only within the psychological arena, but also, ever-increasingly, within the business world. In The Emotional Intelligence Quick Book, authors Bradberry and Greaves outline techniques anyone can use to achieve goals in an easier and more fulfilling way, improve relationships, enhance health, and become more accomplished in the work force. Starting with a discussion on what emotional intelligence (EQ, for short) is and how it impacts our lives, Bardberry and Greaves then provide readers with instructions for determining their own EQ via the book’s companion Web site (the passcode for doing so can be found on the inside of the book’s dust jacket). They also provide a variety of ways readers can increase their EQ and put it to use in their personal and professional lives. Based on research with more than 500,000 people, The Emotional Intelligence Quick Book is exactly that, a quick and easy-to-read resource that empowers readers to master their EQ and more effectively incorporate it into all aspects of their daily lives. Review
"Research shows convincingly that EQ is more important than IQ in almost every role and many times more important in leadership roles. This finding is accentuated as we move from the control philosophy of the industrial age to an empowering release philosophy of the knowledge worker age. Self-awareness, self-motivation, and regulation are foundational to empathy and social skills. This book gives abundant, practical findings and insights with emphasis on how to develop EQ."

-- Dr. Stephen R. Covey, author, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness

"All sentient beings possess awareness, but among them human beings possess great intelligence. Subject to a constant stream of positive and negative thoughts and emotions, what distinguishes us as human beings is that we are capable of positive change. The Emotional Intelligence Quickbook succinctly explains how to deal with emotions creatively and employ our intelligence in a beneficial way."

Emotional Intelligence 2.0 is better5
I loved this book when it came out in 2004 because it was the best thing out there on emotional intelligence. A rare book that only teaches you what you need to know without unnecessary filler.

HOWEVER, the same authors have a new book, Emotional Intelligence 2.0, that is far superior to this one. Emotional Intelligence 2.0 follows the same quick format in its overview of EQ, but then it shows you step-by-step how to increase YOUR EQ. It also includes a new edition of the author's emotional intelligence test that is superior. And, finally, Emotional Intelligence 2.0 is much cheaper than this one!

Do not buy the Kindle edition1
When you buy the Kindle edition of this book, you do not receive a code to take the emotional intelligence appraisal. On hardcover editions, this code is on the reverse side of the dust jacket. While the book does say that it is not absolutely necessary to take the appraisal, I would like to have the option of taking it or not. I contacted customer service about this issue and the reply was they try to ensure that the kindle edition is as close as possible to the original, but sometimes there are differences.

Good coaching tool4
I use this book and the online EQ appraisal as a coaching tool in my consulting work with managers and professionals. It's easy to read and gives us a common language for discussing key points about emotional intelligence. I especially like the self-assessment of personal and social competence as a non-threatening way to help people identify destructive reationship behaviors and create strategies to improve their abiltiy to relate to others. A simple, practical and useful approach to the topic of emotional intelligence.
