![]() | Witches' All by Elizabeth Pepper
Buy new: $13.25 / Used from: $2.74 Pretty but short informative books. Have a lot of nice pictures in them and a very old world appeal. I am saddened to hear of Elizabeth Pepper's death. She was one of those witches from the 70's whose work I enjoy. There is nothing modern about these books, they look like tombs from the 1800's. That is why I like them!

![]() | Moon Lore: Lunar Tales of Wisdom and Magic by Elizabeth Pepper
Buy new: $7.95 / Used from: $2.66 Very nice picture filled book about the moon. Even if you read a lot of history like me, you may enjoy this simple book about the moon, layed out in an old school witchy fashion. I feel this would be a great gift to a witch, it is fun and filled with many of the aspects of the moon goddess and photos to go along with it, mostly classical ones, adding to the faux Victorian feel.
![]() | The Witches' Almanac 2006-2007 (Witches' Almanac)
Buy new: $8.95 / Used from: $0.01 This is the old version of the Almanac, which has been taken over by another editor and given a slightly more modern look, which takes away a lot from the previous editons. These books, even the ones that aren't current, still have a lot of articles and info you can use all the time.

![]() | Magic Spells and Incantations by Elizabeth Pepper
Buy new: $11.01 / Used from: $5.38 You are probably getting the hang of this by now, I like Elizabeth Pepper's work.
![]() | Magical Rites from the Crystal Well (Llewellyn's Practical Magick) by Ed Fitch
Buy new: $10.36 / Used from: $2.55 Maybe people cared more about illustration in the 70's. Or else computers just make things to easy to cop out with Photoshop and bad photo clip art. But this has a lot of nice illustrations and information about witchcraft in general, ethics and rituals, oh and a few great spells that are classic in nature.
![]() | Witch's Brew: Good Spells for Prosperity by Witch Bree
Buy new: $11.01 / Used from: $5.25 This series is fantastic, all the books look like brew soaked old tombs. The pages convery a good use of computer art programs without making it overdone, too modern or just plain crappy.
![]() | Witch's Brew: Good Spells for Creativity (Witch's Brew Good Spell) by Witch Bree
Buy new: $11.01 / Used from: $3.39 Here is another one of these books. She has some others on Friends, Love, etc...you can look them up, I won't liter this list with 5 books from each author!
![]() | A Wiccan Formulary And Herbal by A. J. Drew
Buy used from: $14.00 Not completey archaic, but the herbal part has a lot of nice plant illustrations, making it one of my favorite herbals.
![]() | A Book of Shadows by Tarostar
Buy new: $18.95 / Used from: $22.50 I haven't seen this book, but many of Tarostar's books, like the Witches' Formulary have a nice appeal. Many are hand written and probably photocopied old school, but that lends a nice DIY punk rockiness to this older looking book.
![]() | Aromatherapy: An A-Z: The Most Comprehensive Guide to Aromatherapy Ever Published by Patricia Davis
Buy new: $14.96 / Used from: $12.36 Nice herbal illustrations throughout. Wish the cover was better. But it makes me feel more that I am stepping back in time looking at this book, even though it is up to date.
![]() | The Necromantic Ritual Book by Leilah Wendell
Buy used from: $7.30 Very pretty books by the founder of Westgate, a museum devoted to the spirit of death, who the author sees as her lover. Interesting gothic twist to this pretty books. Use with caution.
![]() | Shadows in the Half-Light: The Haunted Visions of Leilah Wendell. by Leilah Wendell
Buy used from: $8.47 Great poetry book by same women.
![]() | Our Name is Melancholy: The Complete Books of Azrael by Leilah Wendell
Buy used from: $11.93 Another book that has a border and little drawings around the text. Black borders make for fine witchy reading. I wish there were more Wicca books like this around, why can't the Wicca 202-404 authors create some Old World charm these days?
![]() | The Good Spell Book: Love Charms, Magical Cures, and Other Practical Sorcery by Gillian Kemp
Buy new: $10.19 / Used from: $2.49 I have heard this author recycles a lot of her work, but I have only one book from here and it is great. It looks like an old journal and has three bookmarks, bookmarks being another arachaic thing that gives a book like this life.
![]() | The Secrets of High Magic by Francis Melville
Buy used from: $7.05 Very Harry Potter looking book, maybe that is what the publishers of this one were looking for, maybe not. But I like it. Puffy hardcover, gold print on the outside, bevelled edge textured paper, old fashioned looking type, yet conveying useful information about alchemy and magic without being too light.
![]() | The Magic Shield: A Manual of Defense Against the Dark Arts (Quarto Book) by Francis Melville
Buy new: $15.56 / Used from: $8.17 I would buy every book this person puts out, just for the packaging and it is good that the author's books also supply good factual info to boot. This is another one of the puffy cover, metallic print, bevelled edge old textured paper and good use of computer programs to make a good older looking product. I enjoy this book a lot, great for pleasure reading under candlelight.
![]() | Aradia or the Gospel of the Witches by A.J. Drew
Buy new: $11.89 / Used from: $2.66 Old school copy of the Aradia. Doesn't have any pictures that I know of, but it is the original copy of it and has that 1800's mystic charm to it.
![]() | The Goetia: The Lesser Key of Solomon the King (Clavicula Salomonis Regis) by Aleister Crowley
Buy new: $13.57 / Used from: $9.94 Not really a Wicca book, but Wicca's roots are grounded in ceremonial magic and this book is dark but contains great drawings of daemon spirits conjured. Very Victorian, but heck, so was Crowley.
![]() | Halloween: Romantic Art and Customs of Yesteryear by Diane C. Arkins
Buy new: $13.57 / Used from: $12.10 Very nice book on Halloween, featuring old Victorian postcards and customs. Her postcard book is very old school Salem feeling as well.
![]() | Dictionary of Symbols (Norton Paperback) by Carl G. Liungman
Buy new: $14.93 / Used from: $4.25 The cover isn't that great, but it does cover just about every draw symbol, divded by symbol shape. If you see a symbol in an archaic text and want to know what it means, here is where you go.
![]() | Questionable Creatures: A Bestiary by Pauline Baynes
Buy new: $14.04 / Used from: $0.88 Cute book, aimed at kids, but I think occult minded adults could get something good out of these.
![]() | Night Creatures (Enchanted World)
Buy used from: $0.33 This is where I started in the 70's when I was a kid. No Teen Magick book to get me where I needed to go, oh no. And even though these are Time-Life Books, I love them. They are so well done and cheap to buy nowadays.
![]() | Mastering Witchcraft by Paul Huson
Buy used from: $9.25 If you can, find the hardcover copy of this. Black with a wheel of the year engraved in the front, inside it is a mix of Witchcraft and dark magic, 1970's style. I still love it and it has a lot of references to Diana and Aradia, showing its timeframe. This is before everyone was so worried about karma. Great occult drawings throughout. Well done.
![]() | Gypsy Sorcery and Fortune Telling: Illustrated by Incantations, Specimens of Medical Magic, Anecdotes and Tales by Charles Godfrey Leland
Buy used from: $3.16 Nice old school book. Though the facts about his work have been debated, it is still a good time capsule of Italian practices and has wonderful illustrations and borders.
![]() | Etruscan Roman Remains by Charles Leland
Buy new: $18.50 / Used from: $6.44 Same with this book. Pretty much most of the information for modern day Strega has gleamed from these books, illustrations too, since they are public domain as far as I know. Good info on pre-Roman gods, if you are into that sort of thing. I am! :)
![]() | The Gods of Olympus by Menelaos Stephanides
Buy used from: $0.95 Nice book of Greek gods, can be adapted to Roman study. Well done illustrations. I have used this one for reading material in our group because it is written in more of a dramatic way and is more entertaining when presented to a group. Plus, I can show them the pictures! I recommend this to witchy parents too.
![]() | Myths of Greece and Rome by Thomas Bulfinch
Buy new: $21.71 / Used from: $0.59 Not arachiac but the best illustrated book of Greek and Roman myths I have seen.
![]() | Witchcraft Medicine: Healing Arts, Shamanic Practices, and Forbidden Plants by Claudia Müller-Ebeling
Buy new: $21.33 / Used from: $13.36 This book is more modern essaywise, yet contains countless drawings and good graphic design, a feast for the eye as well as the mind.
![]() | Wheel of the Year: Living the Magical Life by Pauline Campanelli
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $4.06 Published about the same time as Magical Rites from the Crystal Well, this is another well illustrated (in fact the authors have won awards for their art) book with an old fashioned sepia toned color scheme.
![]() | Provenance Press's Guide To The Wiccan Year: A Year Round Guide to Spells, Rituals, and Holiday Celebrations by Judy Ann Nock
Buy new: $9.32 / Used from: $4.73 Pretty saw tooth edged book done in cream colored paper and brown fonts, giving it an old time look. Some simple illustrations highlight it.
![]() | D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths by Ingri d'Aulaire
Buy new: $13.22 / Used from: $4.49 Beautiful myth books. I highly recommend them, the drawings are made pressed with large chunks of limestone. Amazing and fun.
![]() | D'Aulaires' Book of Norse Myths by Ingri D'Aulaire
Buy new: $16.47 / Used from: $14.90 Norse Myths from the same author. A great book to read to kids and enjoy yourself.
