Customer Reviews

So far, so good.5
I purchased this watch from Amazon a little over a week ago, and so far it stays in time with internet time, to the second as far as I can tell. It is attractive, though I bought it with the yellow band only because Amazon offered a deal (which enabled me to get it for around $65, which includes sales tax which I have to pay because I'm in one of the few states where Amazon is required to charge sales tax).

I have already bought and received a black Invicta Lorica watch band for this watch (from Jomashop, who has a shop on Amazon), and I have ordered but not yet received a red Invicta Lorica band (from another dealer who has a shop on Amazon). This way I can change bands as desired, and I thank Jnanda for his review, which inspired me to purchase this watch with extra bands.

As Jnanda mentions, Invicta Lorica bands have a quick release feature, but for whatever reason the black band I purchased does not have this feature, and I can only hope that the red band I purchased but have yet to receive will have it. (I wrote to Jomashop asking why the black band lacks this feature, e.g., is it an older version, and I will update this review if and when I get a reply.) Bands can be changed even if they do not have the quick release feature, but that feature makes it much easier.

I applied for Invicta's free upgrade to a five-year warranty and they say it takes a few weeks for that to be processed. I also emailed Invicta to ask if having the battery changed by a local jeweler voids the warranty, and that was a week ago and I have yet to receive a reply. Needless to say, this does not inspire faith in Invicta's customer service, but given what I paid for this watch I'm not all that concerned.

As long as the watch continues to work as it's been working, it is a darn nice looking watch. With a black band I can wear it with dress clothes, with the red and yellow bands I can wear it with casual wear, though the yellow band is obviously not going to go well with everything (but looks great with a bright yellow sweatshirt that I have).

As for the chronograph features, they work as they are supposed to but I haven't had a practical use for them yet.

Amazon's price for this watch as I write this is $81 and change. That's a deal and I am almost tempted to buy a second one so that I can have two with different colored bands on them, but I'm not going to risk having a problem with one (or both) of them, and I don't want to have yet another watch laying around draining a battery. I've had Pulsars that cost more than what I paid for this watch--they cost over $100 each--and neither looked anywhere as nice as this watch. If I did not already own this watch, I would snap it up at the current price, and I would buy at least one extra band so that I would have the option of not wearing a watch with a bright yellow band. But before buying an extra band I would contact the seller to make sure that the Invicta Lorica band I'm buying has the quick release feature that the yellow band this watch comes with has.

Certainly a nice "fashion statement" and I started getting positive comments on the watch on the first day I wore it. The "globule" mineral crystal magnifies the watch face, and that's helpful for me given that I wear reading glasses and can't see smaller or unmagnified watch faces that easily. The hour and minute hands glow in the dark and are large enough that I can tell the time at a glance without reading glasses.

If my Invicta continues to work without problems, I may purchase an Invicta "Baby Lupah" for my daughter for Christmas or for her birthday in January. They are nice-looking watches and the box mine came in and that I assume all Invicta watches come in is an art object. But I'll make sure I get one at a good price rather than at an inflated price. (Invicta's recommended retail price for this watch is $395, or at least that's the price on the tag that Invicta had attached to the watch when I received it. Most retailers on the web price it at somewhere between $100 and $160 or so. I would love to find out what the wholesale cost of these watches are. When operating a bookstore in the nineties where I also sold some jewelry, I learned something from a wholesale jewerly saleswoman that really surprised me. She asked me why I priced the jewelry so low. I thought she would be glad that I did, because I thought that the lower the price, the more you sell. She explained to me that most women who buy jewelry for themselves will see a pair of earrings for $20 and think, "I'm worth more than that," but may be drawn to the exact same earrings if the retail price is closer to $50--I'm talking nineties prices; today the prices would be higher. And she said that the same logic applies when someone is buying jewelry as a gift for someone else; they come in with a predetermined idea of how much they are going to spend. I told her that I usually doubled the wholesale price to come up with a retail price. She said to mark jewelry up at least four times and to put less on display at a time so that each item with a higher price tag will really stand out. I somewhat reluctantly took her advice--reluctantly because it was counter-intuitive to me and I was afraid that the higher jewelry prices might alienate customers--but it turned out that she was right. My profits from jewelry sales increased exponentially. So caveat emptor!)

Update: Because I titled my review "So far, so good," I figure I should provide an update. It is now January 18, 2009; the above review by me was posted August 30, 2008. I am happy to report that I've had no problems with the watch whatsoever. I don't bother to try to set analog watches to the second against computer time, but - I'm checking right now - the Lupah continues to be accurate to the minute, and I only set it once when I got it. (I have three older watches, an analog quartz Pulsar, a quartz Seiko that has an analog and a digital display, and a digital Timex, and they all gain or lose minutes within a couple of months of being set.) I continue to receive compliments on the Lupah, and just recently (right before Christmas '08) I purchased a second Invicta watch from Amazon, that being the Pro Diver Men's Stainless Steel Watch #5249. So far it is as accurate as the Lupah, and I received my "free" warranty upgrade card just a couple of weeks after applying for it by mail. I promise to write another update if I have any problems with the Lupah.

Nice!!!! For the price!!!4
This watch is very nice. Especially for the price. The quality seems very good. The band material takes a little getting use to. The band has a neat quick release function that make changing it easy. I would recommend this watch.

A good watch and a good deal5
Bought two of these a few weeks ago for about 60.00 delivered. One was a present for my brother and I kept the 2nd one. I don't mind the yellow band on occasion. But I needed a black band for every day. The Lorica OEM band felt cheezy to me. I found a great 24mm black leather band for about 10 bucks on ebay. Gotta say the black band really makes this piece pretty.
That said I wouldn't consider this watch at over a hundred dollars. Quartz watches are basically all the same, you are buying fashion at this price point. Overall happy with this watch so far.
