A bit slow on the uptake...
...but had a fairly strong conclusion.
Mr. Graham has room for improvement here, and this last novel in a long series evidences this. After a hundred pages, that first battle got a little dry, and the dialogue was slightly monotonous, along with a few other things I could mention. The characters and the world felt modern, which clashed with the obviously fantastical setting, and the 'dread captain of the Nolthanim' title irritated me through it's overuse--as well as the contraction he'd. To clear away these nuisances can sometimes be a chore, and though the idea was wonderful, I find the execution of it slightly lacking. Even so, the ending was strong and left me longing for the restoration as much as the next person, and I think that despite it's other problems this book is decent at the least. The series had a great beginning, a middle that felt rather drawn out, but the final closing chapters saved this one for me, and I don't regret reading it.
Great conclusion!
This is the 5th and last book in the Binding of the Blade series. It was well worth the wait, and the ending was very satisfying - some bad things happen early on, but the ending makes up for it all. The ending is a tad bit anti-climactic, since the last major battle comes well before the end. But overall, I really enjoyed it (and the whole series).
All My Holy Mountain
I began reading the "Binding of the Blade" series by L.B. Graham several years ago, and only recently bought the final three books. The final installment of the series, "All My Holy Mountain", is by far my favorite. It made me laugh and cry more frequently than any other book has in a very long time. This epic story is full of surprises, some good and some bad, but all pointing the readers, like the characters in the books, toward the Creator. The middle three books, which focus on the shadow being cast over Kirthanin by the Satan-like character Malek, are compelling but also a little bit depressing. They are full of darkness as Malek's armies march forward and destroy everything in their path, but there are powerful flashes of hope in the chaos. "All My Holy Mountain" is the culmination of what has become my favorite Christian fiction series, ending with the final defeat of Malek by Allfather, and the much-awaited restoration of Kirthanin. The character of whom I, and another "Binding of the Blade" fan I know are most fond also makes a brief but deeply moving appearance in the final pages of the book. I strongly reccomend this series to anyone who enjoys Christian fiction.
