The First Years Hands Free Gate with ExtensionRarely does a mom or dad make it through a day without thinking they could use an extra set of hands. So we designed the next best thing: a safety gate that doesn't require any hands at all! Versatile too, as it's suitable between rooms or at the bottom of stairs. But perhaps the finest part is that while it's simple for an adult to just press on the pedal and walk through, it's too difficult for a baby as the child-proof pedal requires the weight of an adult. Gate door swings open in both directions for ease of use. White metal frame features no-mar rubbers. Audible click indicates the gate has locked. Measures 30" high x 29" wide, and extends to 34" wide--up to 39" wide with the extension. Pressure-mounted gate; some assembly required.

This gate lives up to that claim with an innovative foot pedal that allows parents to free their hands to carry valuable cargo. Simply step on the foot pedal and nudge the gate open with your knee. It has been designed with your child's safety in mind. The foot pedal is operated for hands free entry. This gate swings in either direction for convenience. It includes one 5" extension, to fit openings up to 39" wide. The large rubber bumpers helps keep walls scuff free. It's coated metal bars create a sturdy barrier. The swinging gate opens in either direction for convenient walk thru.
Customer Reviews
Sturdy and Dependable
This gate has been used every day for almost three years and shows no signs of wear or tear. For an adult, or older child, it is simple to step on and open with your foot, but impossible for a toddler or preschooler to open- and strong enough to withstand all the attempts:)
I trust this product and recommend you go ahead and invest in this gate!
Great Gate
We really like this gate. Easy to open and close and opens in both directions.
4yrs in use and still going strong
This was bought to replace a chunk of wood blocking my 2 pug dogs from escaping into the unknown. It has been in place for 4 yrs or longer. Used multiple times a day into the main living part of our house. I got it with 3 extensions at a resale shop for $[...]. Our entrance is 43 1/2" wide and have the extra extension that I will use with the new one I am going to order. This is without a doubt the best buy ever, simply because it is hands free. It does close by hand, or foot, and does not close automatically, and the dogs know to listen for the click, as my cockie attitude hubbie doesn't always close it completely. They know to paw the bottom of the gate and pull or push it open if it didn't latch, and they escape to the rest of the house, or out the front door. Nothing on this has broken. It is very sturdy and worth the investment. Wipes up clean very easily. I love the hands free part simply because from the shopping to the kitchen this gate makes it quite easy with carrying several bags, or carrying boxes. It is not so tall that I cannot cart them over it either. The opening of this is never on any site....and that sucks....as it should be. The walk thru opening is: top is 17" and the bottom because of the bottom latch is 16 1/2". Because it is a walk over, and it has extra sturdy plastic pieces attached to the walk over bar it resembles more of a hump, and not so cumbersome. No one has ever tripped over it, nor fallen. I notice many of the other brands do not go the distance to add that feature, and I feel that is important. A tip I use is the pressure points that push against the wall, I find that holey rubber stuff (buy it for drawers to stop stuff from rolling or sliding) cut in pieces and folded over help those pressure points stay in place and keep from getting bumped off kilter. That has happened carrying in big boxes but it has never fallen it just gets moved slightly, which annoys me. I also put a piece of that rubber stuff on the bottom of the walk-thru to keep that from sliding as well on our tile floor. (I wish the opening of this brand, was about 24" as that would be good for carrying in big boxes.)Can't have everything.
I hope my tips help someone decide that this is a good quality purchase that will do the trick for 2 legged babies or 4 legged babies.
