Customer Reviews
A Solid Piece of the AC/DC Pie
If you are a fan of AC/DC then you simply have to own 'Jailbreak'. Sure it's short in length, but it is so full of good music that what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality. The song 'Jailbreak' is AC/DC at it's best with Bon Scott's unique and edgy vocals. Angus Young's guitar work is phenominal. 'You Aint' Got A Hold on Me' shows where the band is heading with a more melodic rhythm and catchy chorus, and 'Soul Stripper' shows where the band came from, with a really great blues vocal by Bon. Another highlight of 'Jailbreak' is the cover of Them/Van Morrison's tune 'Baby Please Don't Go'. The instantly recognizable guitar hook is great, and AC/DC takes this classic and makes it their own.
Sure it's a short album, but there is so much jammed in here that you can't pass it over. It may be a little expensive, but honestly I play 'Jailbreak' a lot more often than I play other CD's that I have paid as much if not more for, CD's that will be played once and shelved, so you tell me which one is the better value?
AC/DC - ' '74 Jailbreak' (Sony)
Until I recently dug this five-track mini-album up, I can't remember the last time I heard this vintage title. Think I once had a vinyl copy of this record. No matter, this is AC/DC at their very earliest work. Raw, angry and just plain heavy. However, at the same time, I think '74 Jailbreak' may be more bluesy than any of their other lp's. Play this one repeatedly, you'll have time.Classic track listing: "Jailbreak"(4:40), "You Ain't Got A Hold On Me"(3:30), "Show Business"(4:43), "Soul Stripper"(6:23) and their Big Joe Williams standard cover "Baby,Please Don't Go"(4:50). Simply, a must-have.
Let me tell you a story
In 1974 AC/DC released there first album, which was called "HighVoltage" (not to be confused with the world issue)
the tracks where
1. Baby Please Dont Go
2. Shes Got Balls
3. Little Lover
4. Stick Around
5. Soul Stripper
6. You Aint Got A Hold On Me
7. Love Song
8. Show Buisiness
AC/DC's second album was called TNT and when they went international, they released a new international album also named HIGHVOLTAGE which contained most of the songs off TNT except for "School Days" and "Rocker"
Then after the trajic death of Bon Scott the fans were still screaming for more Bon! Already DDDDC was released in Australia, but it was banned from US markiting because some idiot thought it was promoting the wrong thing... you know how they are... and so they took one track off DDDDC (australia) called "Jailbreak" and then added most off what was still unreleased from the OZ HV album.... and thats where the downfall really comes from this re-issue
this re-issue should have contained the 2 other songs from the original
- Love Song
- Stick Around
Amongst many others still unreleased to this day!
My advice is to not get this album, and go for the Australian release of HighVoltage instead and The Australian Dirty Deeds albums!
