![]() | MSI Wind U100-420US 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 3 Cell Battery) Black
Buy used from: $271.99 This is the one I obtained, but the 6-cell model with Bluetooth is probably better.

Buy new: $26.48 / Used from: $22.95 Double (and max out) the RAM for less than $20? Yes, please.

![]() | Mac OS X Version 10.5.6 Leopard
Buy new: $299.99 / Used from: $249.95 You buy this, you put it on your shelf, and you feel good that you compensated the hard-working people of Apple for their finely-crafted operating system. But you'll have to download the disc image you actually install.

![]() | LG GSA-E50L Slim 8x DVD±RW DL USB 2.0 Powered External Drive LightScribe (Black/White)
Buy new: $71.65 / Used from: $59.98 This is a slick little USB-powered drive that's a good match for the Wind, and will allow you to burn the patched Leopard disc image to roll your own install. If you're smarter than me, you may be able to figure out how to install off an SD card or USB flash drive.

![]() | Kingston Mobility Kit - 8 GB microSDHC Flash Memory Card with SD and miniSD Adapters + USB 2.0 Reader MBLY/8GB (Black)
Buy new: $28.99 For those who want to try a flash-based install, this should be what you need. This kit is nice because the memory is on a MicroSD that can be plugged into the included full-size SD adapter to work with the Wind's internal drive, or the little USB thumbnail adapter (also included). I keep it in the USB adapter, attached to my keychain, without the cover, and it seems indestructible.

![]() | Apple Macbook Air SuperDrive (MB397G/A)
Buy new: $96.99 / Used from: $53.70 OPTIONAL: For the ultimate Hackintosh, you could employ an Apple peripheral that Apple never intended for use with anything but their precious Macbook Air. A being named tnkgrl managed to figure out a way to liberate this drive by replacing its circuit board. Google it!

![]() | Logitech AudioHub Notebook Speakers
Buy new: $32.15 / Used from: $26.95 To get sound off the Wind, your best bet is USB rather than the headphone jack. These are nice self-contained speakers plus "sub" that doubles as a USB hub. Leave it on your desk connected to all your favorite USB peripherals and when you're ready to dock the Wind you only need to make one connection (plus power and external display if desired-see below).

For the ultimate HiFi USB solution.

![]() | 6FT SVGA Gold Right-angle Monitor Cable with Rgb Coax HD15M/M
Buy new: $12.23 With OS X running so well on the Wind, you may be feeling a bit of hubris and set upon the Quixotic quest of turning it into a desktop powerhouse. Of course, you'll want a larger display, since OS X looks so beautiful in hi-res. Here's a VGA cable that exits out the side of the connector toward the back of the Wind, keeping the cable out of the way of the the mouse. Huzzah!

![]() | HP L2335 - LCD display - TFT - 23" - 1920 x 1200 / 60 Hz - 250 cd/m2 - 500:1 - 16 ms - 0.258 mm - DVI-I, VGA - silver, carbon
Buy used from: $299.00 Yes, Virginia, your Wind can drive an external display at 1920x1200. I found this discontinued 23" on eBay for $125! It has the same LCD as the recently discontinued Apple Cinema, but it has VGA, component, S-video, and composite inputs in addition to DVI.

![]() | Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (Black)
Buy new: $39.99 / Used from: $33.99 Steve Jobs thinks the 3 USB ports on the Wind is two (or maybe three) too many for Apple's take on the netbook. You can approach his design aesthetic by permanently plugging one of them with the impossibly tiny usb receiver of this unbelievably slick wireless mouse.
|
![]() | Asante Talk Ethernet to LocalTalk Bridge
Buy used from: $39.50 Give your setup some old-school Apple character by using this product to hook up some old Postscript-capable LaserWriter to the Wind's ethernet port. You'll have to scour the earth to find the last toner cartridges in existence, but you won't feel you're getting as ripped off as when you buy inkjet ink.
