"Mommy, read Joshua book!"
I can't speak to the quality of the potty seat included, as we received the book, doll, and doll potty as gifts. My son just loves this book, on or off the potty (mostly on). And little Joshua sits beside him on his potty every time. It's a little long, but very engaging, and that means I can keep my son seated on the potty a while -- a plus! He loves the section where Joshua considers what the new potty is. When I read "Was it a milk bowl for the cat?" and all of the other possible questions, my son gleefully shouts "No!" and waits for the next. Having the doll has given my son real tangible reinforcement, as he often wants to "have" the things he reads in books, so Joshua is very real to him, and we take advantage of that by talking to him about what Joshua is doing (or should be doing!) or thinking or feeling during potty training--e.g. "Now when Joshua feels like he has to go tinkle, he tells his Mommy or Daddy, just like you're going to tell Mommy or Daddy when you have to go, right?" We just love the Joshua doll and book and they've been a real boost to our potty-training efforts.
The best potty book and potty
The Once Upon a Potty has been the best! I also had the one for my little girl too. I've had many other books and this one is the only one that really perks their interest and helps the kids compare whats in the book with both their body parts and the potty after they went. For some reason that seems to be the best part of the book for them. So hands down the book for both girl and boy is what you need. For my girl I had a different potty chair that worked just fine but definately love this one for my boy because it's super easy for them to get on by themselves and also he can't spray it out when he sits. Other potties have a removable tab that goes in the front to avoid spraying out forward but he would just rip it off. So this one works well.
Good potty chair
This is a great potty chair. It is easy for my son to get on and off and certainly alleviates the tinkle guard for boys issue that so many other potty chairs have. Initially I bought a traditional potty chair for my son but he was only interested in taking it apart and was bothered by the lid against his back when he sat on it. This potty totally alleviates both of those distractions and issues. He likes the little boy doll and the story too. I think it has helped him to understand a bit better, although I personally changed up the story to be more interesting and hold his attention better and also to include the words that we use in our household. So the book is a fun distraction but not necessary. The doll is most likely not necessary either, but I don't think they hurt. The potty chair is really good!
