This was designed for an SLR, but I found this to be utterly fantastic for my Canon HF100 HD camera. Highly recommend it for *any* camera that will fit in it; this is an extremely well-designed, versatile and rugged camera bag.

If you're sleeping by yourself (at least when you arrive :) ), I'd recommend a tent like this. You want enough room that you can stretch out and organize your gear inside, without having to step out into the dust.

Something like this, but probably even better. I saw people who had a solar panel connected to a car battery; they provided juice for all their neighbors' cameras and thus also were Gods among men.

I have Pentax lenses, so this is my SLR. If you haven't already bought into the Pentax system, you might as well start with another system; but this a great camera with superb resolution, features, and top all-weather capabilities. I'm totally happy with my Pentax K10D, and this is the upgrade from that model.

A monopod is convenient, foldable, light and versatile for all camera work.

Get a bike that's solid and doens't cost too much money. You'll want a bike at least to be able to zip around. If you like, you can even just buy a cheap bike and then donate it to one of the towns on the way back, after you leave Burning Man.

Wash yourself, hippie. And don't forget to bring a small mirror and shave. It's easy to forget. But again, the trick is to camp in the rough conditions and still maintain the veneer of luxurious civilized decadence. So don't forget the water and the beer.
