Amazon.com Product Description
Toshiba's Regza line of TVs marry state-of-the-art technology to hip design. One feature that sets them apart is PixelPure 14-bit digital video processing, which creates more than 4,000 levels of color gradations for a smooth, natural-looking picture without posterization or image banding. Another benefit is a fast response time. Response time is the interval an LCD screen takes to from its darkest color to its lightest color and back again, measured in milliseconds (ms). This screen's response time is 8 ms, which is at the faster and better end of the spectrum. This screen is likely to display cleaner, sharper images during high-action scenes and with fewer image artifacts than other screens in its class. This technology is housed in a black gloss cabinetry that is sure to fit well with most any decor.
The 37HL67 has a panel resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This qualifies it as 720 progressive-line HDTV, which is a noticeably better picture than standard definition sets, but not as detailed as the 1080 HD sets available. Its 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio delivers most movies the way they were meant to be seen in the theater, without back bars wasting the top and bottom of the screen.
The Value of LCD TVs
Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. The 37HL67 is only 4.65 inches deep and weighs less than 35 pounds. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens.
Connections
The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It can also make these connections to your audio and video components:
- HDMI inputs: 3
- ColorStream HD component video inputs: 2
- PC monitor input: 1 VGA 15 Pin D-sub
- S-video input: 1
- A/V inputs: 2
Audio
The unit's SoundStrip speaker system hides the unit's speakers in a thin strip bordering the screen. They're powerful enough to deliver big stereo sound, but they don't add significantly to the size of the set. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels. SRS WOW, a combination of SRS 3D, TruBass, and Focus sound-expanding systems, create a 3-D sound field with improved bass response over standard TV audio and create directed, three-dimensional audio sweet spot for maximum enjoyment. The TV also has optical digital output for connecting to your audio system.
37-inch wide screen
A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 37-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the 37HL67 is ideal for viewing distances of 8 to 14 feet.

Fantastic value!
I reasearched quite a bit before buying this TV. It is a great value. Looking at TVs on display in stores, other LCDs didn't have very dark blacks and a lot had those weird pixelly trails when there was fast motion. The 37HL67 doesn't have either of these problems. It has a great picture - bright, good color and contrast. The controls are easy to use. The picture and built in sound are great. I hooked up an old amplified antenna I had and the tuner got almost all of our local HDTV stations. I just ordered an antenna made for HDTV Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna for Off-Air HDTV Reception and expect that to work even better. In case you came across this in your search, the 37HL17 is the exact same model as this one, it just has a different number as it is usually shipped to a different type of retailer. All in all, I am very happy with this TV and would recommend it highly.
The connections on the back:
3 HDMI inputs
coaxial input for cable/antenna
computer monitor VGA-type input
2 sets of component video (3 phono/RCA type plugs)/stereo audio (2 phono plugs) inputs
1 analog video (single yellow phono plug)/audio in with s-video option
1 optical TOSLINK audio out
1 main stereo (red/white phono plug) audio out
one stereo audio in (red/white phono plug) for use with either the HDMI or computer monitor in
A 2nd analog video/audio in on the side of the TV for a camcorder or whatever
Love it!
My dad was looking for a new TV, so we did a lot of research and landed on the Toshiba based on price vs brand quality/reliability. Now that it is set up the thing looks fantastic and is clearly worth more than we paid for it. Picture quality is superb, it took no time to set up, and we also have the comfort of owning a quality brand like Toshiba (between the two of us we own 3 other Toshiba TVs and they all look great and have lasted a long time)
One thing that really stands out is how well it seems to handle standard def signals from satellite and DVDs, which is a real plus as he does not yet have a high def package. The picture looks great for an LCD TV, and its easy to mess around with the settings like picture size and so forth to get it the way you like it, though honestly you may not change anything right out of the box. We also tried an upconverting DVD player using HDMI, and the results, as expected, were beautiful. Highly recommended!
Very good HDTV
HD picture: 5 stars. The color and sharpness are about as good as any others (some being much more expensive) that I have looked at.
SD digital picture: 4 stars. No HDTV displays SD extremely well, but the Regza does as good or better than most.
SD analog picture: 4 stars. Of course not as impressive as digital, but I would expect that.
Sound quality: 5 stars. I have external surround sound connected, but you don't really need it.
User adjustments: 5 stars. This TV has a lot of settings for picture and sound, you can customize it exactly how you want it. We have digital HD satellite, and an outdoor antenna connected, and get a very good picture from both. I have only watched SD DVD's so cannot say much about that, but they are as good as any other SD content. Overall, I am very happy with this television, and cannot come up with any negatives. I would strongly consider buying a Toshiba again.
MAY 08, 2008 - After almost 10 months, no problems, and we are still very satisfied with the Regza! The HD programs are fantastic, and standard digital is really good too, S.D. does vary from program to program, but that isn't the televisions fault.
