Product Description

The period covered in 'Singapore. The socio-economic development of a city-state' is one of great change and tells the story of one of the most successful turnarounds from an underdeveloped to a highly developed nation. It gives us a historical overview of the rapid growth and development of the Singapore economy, detailing the institutions and policies, which have made this growth possible. The content is based on far-reaching library research and an in-depth interview with Dr Albert Winsemius (1910-1996), a Dutch economist, who was Singapore's long-time economic advisor from 1961 to 1984. This book recreates the cultural history of the key institutions and politics which made possible the "miracle" of Singapore, one of East Asia's "little dragons".

Singapore: A phenomenon5
I have only visited Singapore once in my life. As a tourist. and I was very impressed with what I saw there.
This book highlights a very fascinating period in Singapore's history.
The years 1960-1980 were very important to build the foundation Singapore is built upon. And still profits from, from day to day.
The economic, social and political development provides for a good read.
This book should be in every student or scholars backpack when the history of Singapore is studied.
