Editorial Review
Anyone who's ever done it knows the indescribable feeling--getting Yahtzee in one roll! Of course, this five-of-a-kind phenomenon only happens once in a blue moon. The rest of the time, players must be content with a three-roll full house, large or small straight, or any other combination of five dice. In this seductive game of luck and strategy, players have three tries each turn to roll dice in hopes of obtaining the elusive Yahtzee--or racking up points in one of the 12 other scoring categories. For a real challenge, go for a bonus Yahtzee--two or more in one game! This parlor classic has captivated and vexed players, young and old, since 1956. Game includes five dice, dice cup, 10 bonus chips, score pad, and instructions (English and Spanish). For one or more players. --Emilie Coulter

Quite simply, it's a classic
In addition to being fun, playing family games can be "quietly educational" (i.e., we know the kids are learning something, but it's not the overt purpose of the interaction). Yahtzee, a classic in its own gaming right, is also a wonderfully educational game. Consider how quickly young folks just beginning to grapple with addition and subtraction pick up the necessary skills when their score is on the line. Yahtzee is noisy, wonderful fun that everyone in our family enjoys. Unlike games targeted specifically for little ones (think Candyland and Chutes and Ladders), Yahtzee excites players old and young and in between. Happy gaming!
Classic Fun
This is a classic fun game. We've always enjoyed this, and we've revised the rules for the toddlers to play. When we play with the toddlers, we simply go in order of the scorecard (ex: our first roll is to get as many one's as possible, then we write the amount on the scorecard).
Sometimes for a little variety, when playing with adults, we revise the rules again. We've taken one scorecard and played "blackout," where we finish the entire scorecard and make it one game; we've played it the same as we play with the toddlers or young childred listed above; and we've played it the normal way.
Yahtzee has always been a great family game, and it does improve math skills. Make your children add up their own dice and/or scores. Best of all, put away the calculators!! Enjoy!!
Great game at a great price
We got this game for our nine year old son for Christmas. We only had to play it with him a few times before he and his seven year old brother got the hang of it. Now they can play without any help from us. It is also a great game because it is one their dad and I like to play with them. Our two and four year old can even get in on the action by teaming up with one of us and rolling the dice for us. It is a great family game.
