A disappointment
The copy on the product is a little misleading. It doesn't actually "dispense" money like an ATM. When you decide to withdraw you enter the amount you want to take out, the whole bottom drawer opens and you reach in and take out what you want. All the money just sits in the bottom drawer all mashed up together. It would be a good place to hide other small treasures from brothers and sisters.
The machine is basically just a big calculator with a running total. If you make an error you have to adjust manually which is confusing to kids.
For anyone laboring under the misconception - this machine does not read bills or count money, it's just a calculator with a drawer in the bottom.
Time-tested toy
My nine year old son received one of these as a birthday gift. I thought it was pretty cute. I was surprised, though, by how much mileage he got out of it. He used it as a bank, and kept his money in it. But he also used it to play "bank" and other games with his sisters and friends -- which occasionally degenerated into "bank robber"-- but they had a ton of fun with this an accessory for make-believe games of all kinds. I think just having the bank motivated him to save his money, too - something that we'd had a hard time getting him to do when he was just putting it into an old-fashioned piggy bank. There's something to be said for introducing kids early to the realities of putting the money in, taking it out, and when you take out too much, there's none left!
Very Educational
I bought this for my 6 year old daughter. She loves it. It helps her to keep track of her money and she loves to enter in money and watch her account grow. I do wish it had 2 or more "accounts" so she could also work on saving her money.
I would recommend this to a friend.
