Product Description

Schoenhut Piano Company takes the concept of pianos for the very young a step further with a new three-octave Traditional Deluxe Spinet. With a keyboard almost half the size of that on an adult piano, this model is designed for ages three to nine. Not "just a toy," but a fine musical instrument, and a lovely addition to your home, as well.

Chromatically tuned, the lovely chime-like notes are produced by small hammers striking precision-ground, German steel music rods (versus the conventional taut wires used in full-sized models).

Schoenhut?s patented Learning System, with its play-by-color teaching method, makes playing simple and fun. A removable color strip fits behind the keys to guide small fingers from chord to chord. The chart will also work on adult keyboards, since keys on Schoenhut toy pianos are of corresponding width. This teaches children proper finger stretch from the very beginning. The accompanying Songbook contains a collection of familiar tunes. This Learning System has been specially designed to build a child?s confidence and develop basic playing skills.

Made of maple, birch and hardboard. Piano measures 24"H x 24.75"W x 12"D. Matching bench measures 14"W x 11"H x 8"D. Weighs 32 lbs.
Ages 3 and up

Customer Reviews

Beautiful!5
My son who is almost 3 received this for Christmas. What a beautiful and rewarding toy. This is something that can be passed down to future generations, very good quality. The sound isn't quite classic piano, but sounds very nice. Almost like chimes. It comes with a removable color coded key guide and a song booklet. The matching bench is great too. My son really loves it and I think it's a great way to introduce him to a musical instrument. I read somewhere that this is the smallest piano ever played at Carnagie Hall. (small trivia tidbit).

Bad quality given price1
While I didn't expect fantastic sound from a toy piano, given the price it should be reasonable to expect better quality. The action of the keys feels very cheap. There is almost no travel and adequate rebound to the key action. You pretty much can't get a sound out without a forceful hit leaving little room for subtlety in dynamics. One of the notes is pretty badly out of tune -- so much for the advertised "precision" of the sound rods. Worst of all is the upper octave. Striking any note there sets up a very unpleasant resonant hum which pretty much drowns out the note you are trying to play.

Because of a shipping mix up, we actually got shipped two of these and sent one back. The second one had pretty much the same defects, so these problems are clearly inherent to the quality of the product.

The piano looks nice enough, and we weren't going to send back our daughter's second birthday present at the last minute, so we ended up keeping this. She does enjoy it as a toy, and it will be good enough to introduce her to the basics of a keyboard, but I'm severely disappointed in the quality of this given the price. Clearly whatever quality this brand once had has been squandered in outsourcing its production to China, so by all means "mark well the name," for it now deserves scorn. If my daughter was a little older, I think I would pay half as much for an electronic keyboard.

sent damaged for xmas and haven't yet sent another one1
I think my title about says it all. I was really counting on this for xmas for my daughter, and it was shipped damaged. And by damaged I mean that all the keys were falling out all over the place and it looked like someone had punched it out! When I called, the company was less than professional and acted like, "oh great, well, we'll send another one, OK?" It never came. UPS came and picked up the damaged one, and I waited...and waited...and waited. Called again, "oh so your asking us to send you another one?" I said that I wasn't asking, I was trying to find out where the one was that was supposed to have already been sent. "oh, no problem, we'll send another one." When can I expect it? "oh, 3-5 days." That was probably two weeks ago. And no credit to my card either. Ever since amazon started ferreting out to other companies, stuff like this happens.
