A Rather Lackluster Spider-Man
This Spider-Man is based off his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15. The sculpt captures the look of Spider-Man, but overall the figure leaves a bit to be desired. First of all, it is made with very soft plastic, so the legs have a tendancy to warp into strange shapes. Also, due to the soft plastic, you ahve to be very careful moving the joints. It seems very easy to break if you force it too much. There is also quite a bit of paint bleeding from the black lines in his outfit. However, most collectors will want this figure regardless of any flaws, as it contains the torso and head of the Sentinal. If you collect each figure in the wave you can assemble a giant figure. Still, the figure itself does leave much to be desired.
NOT JUST ANOTHER SPIDERMAN FIGURE...
First Appearance Spiderman. I was very skeptical about buying this figure, but since my sons needed the piece of the Sentinel that was inside to complete their Sentinel figure, we got it anyway. To my surprise, this wasn't just another Spiderman figure. This figure is really very nice. The articulation is great. The fingers can all move separately, except the thumbs--they don't move. All of the joints were tight and nicely concealed on this figure. The paint job isn't in the colors that I would like (red and black), but was done nicely. I love how Spidey's eyes aren't so big and round, but are like narrow slits. The underarm webbing is cool, but can either be taken off (which is what we did) or left on. I was expecting some redone Spiderman sculpt with a different paint job for this figure, but he seems to be one of a kind. He's in perfect scale with other characters from this toy line. The figure also comes with a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15-the comic book in which Spidey "first appeared"--hence, the name of this figure. As I mentioned, he is part of the Sentinel Series. Which means 2 things this time-you get a wall mountable display base AND you get a piece of the Sentinel's huge 16-inch body. The display base is simply a pedestal-style base of clear plastic to make the character seem as if they are flying or in the middle of a jump. But, it can be placed on the wall or on a sturdy, flat surface for displaying. It is basically the same base that came with the Vision and Deadpool figures. When you get 6 of the 7 figures in this series (Mystique and Omega Red have the same body piece), the pieces can be joined together to make the 8th figure in the series-the Sentinel!! The massive, mechanical menace that hunts down the X-Men and other mutants and eliminates them. Everyone will surely buy all the figures they will need in order to get the Sentinel. It truly looks awesome when it is assembled. Then again, the character selection in this series is so exciting; you'll want to buy them regardless of the Sentinel. This figure is not that well stocked, so finding another may not be easy even though it is another Spiderman. ToyBiz is trying to make sure there is enough of every character so that everyone has a chance to build the Sentinel. Get him while you can.
Spidey in All his Glory!
Like many people when I saw that Spider-man was getting the Legends treatment, I inwardly groaned. With the Spiderman Classics line doing so well, and the articulation greatly increasing, I thought we'd be getting something like we already had several of. I was very pleasantly supprised to find a wonderful figure. Not only is the Head piece crucial to build the Sentinel, but the figure is great. The clear display base is perfect and he can almost perfectly mimic his now famous Amazing Fantasy #15 Cover pose.
Like I said the articulation is great and the Sentinel piece alone is worth money.
