Obvious learning benefits...okay, I don't have patience with myself to really want to learn to play well, but my daughter is lucky to have her dad to play with

There are other similar games (Equate, I think) but this is what we have and enjoy. Great reinforcement of math skills and problem solving, similar to scrabble, but with math equations

Another perennial favorite and similar to Phase 10...you can also just use the dice for all kinds of other made up games (look for joyful math on the web)

Great with little ones for teaching/reinforcing colors and numbers. Play alternate rules like adding/subtracting 2 cards in your hand to match card on deck.

My daughter loves this game, quick, easy and fun way to learn the names of states, the capitols etc...

Just received this to give to my elderly mom for Christmas. I'm very pleased with it and hope it will allow her to continue to Sudoku despite failing eyesight. Update: This game has remained by her side for nearly a year now.

Great game...and cheap, easy fast and fun ! Dealer deals cards face up one at a time and first player to find an allowable word wins those cards which are counted as points. Play continues until all players have been dealer. Instructions include adaptations for little ones and spanish play!

There are not many software products I would consider adding to this list, but this is truly great. My husband bought it for my kids and they love it. It does require some strategy, thinking, planning as they build a Rube Goldberg-like contraption. You can design your own, or there are problems to be solved and levels to achieve...a lot of problem solving...really great!

Simple to learn, but with strategy involved. Great for little ones as well who are learning about numbers.

Well, due to my piratey son we happen to have pirate farkel...easy, no real strategy involved but kids do learn some math skills and it's a great game to carry around in a purse

This is one of my favorite "first games" for kids. Involves colors, counting, waiting for your turn, good character. Perennial favorite!
