Good coffee from this gadget
Voltage Valet Quick Café II (Travel Coffee Maker)
I was going to buy the highly rated Zelco travel coffee maker, but the Quick Cafe II is not as heavy. So I figured I go out on a limb a try it. My first attempt at using it was a disaster! I had filled the coffee filter with grounds, and coffee came out everywhere but the spout - what a mess. So I looked at the directions and saw that the device calls for one tablespoon of coffee, which amounts to slightly more than half the filter's capacity (loosely tamped down). I tried again to make a cup of coffee (following the instructions t his time) and succeeded very nicely.
The machine is faster than than the instructions indicated: at most 5 minutes for a cup vs. the 7-10 minute estimate in the instructions. I was worried that, with such a relatively small amount of coffee the brew would be watery, and I like good strong coffee. However, I was pleasantly surprised on that front as well - the resulting brew was excellent. I think one can add a small amount more coffee, without the disaster of my first attempt, if the brew is too weak for your palate.
All in all, I recommend this gadget. It makes a good cup of coffee and weighs only slightly more than a pound. As far as I can tell, this is the lightest and smallest travel coffee maker around.
Great little coffee maker!
I just bought my Quick Cafe II and tried it out immediately. Twice. Once I filled basket half full with cheapo coffee and it made a cup of cheapo tasting coffee. Then I filled basket half full of good espresso ground coffee and it made a delicious cup of rich coffee. ie, the cup of coffee you get depends on the coffee you use. Also, the directions indicate an "on" button but there isn't one. Plugging in the coffee maker starts it, so make sure you're ready, including the cup under the spout, before plugging it in. It took 6 minutes to brew a cup in US. Size as indicated. Recommend.
travel coffee maker
Love this coffee maker! I've used it many times so far and have not found fault with it at all. I like the size of the cup - I was used to a smaller sized cup with the coffee maker that this new one replaced. I had to make two cups - twice the trouble. Now I make one cup - and it's easy to do.
