Editorial Reviews
From the Manufacturer
It's always a good idea to have an emergency kit, just in case Emergency lighting is critical and should be carried with you at all times, as well as being part of your first aid or emergency kit. The e+LITE is the ideal emergency light because it is compact, light weight, dependable and high performance. In addition, it is ready for use today, tomorrow or 10 years down the road. Hopefully you'll never need it, but it's good to know that it's there and that it will perform. Emergency lighting can be critical in situations such as changing a car tire on a dark road, traveling domestically and internationally, during power failures, walking in the woods, camping trips, as well as in disasters like earthquakes, hurricanes, car accidents, etc. The Petzl e+LITE provides up to 4 consecutive nights of lighting (45 hours). That is amazing considering that it is the size of a walnut and weighs less than 1 ounce (27 grams), including batteries! The Petzl E+LITE is perfect to leave in your backpack, purse, boat, car, first aid kit, luggage, etc. for those unexpected emergencies where having light can make the difference between an epic adventure or a walk in the park. The Petzl e+LITE has three white LEDs with 2 levels of light and 1 red LED for preserving night vision. The brightest setting on the White LEDs shines up to 19 meters. Both the red and white LEDs have a flashing function for signaling. The Petzl e+LITE comes with a removable, thin elastic adjustable headband to fit comfortably on your head, around your neck, your arm, etc. Additionally, the e+Light can be clipped to a pocket, bill of a cap, book, etc. Mounted on a ball and socket joint, the e+LITE tilts and pivots 360 degrees allowing you to orient the light to where you want. A positive lock switch prevents accidental operation of the light. The e+LITE comes with a compact and convenient storage case.

light and powerful.
Purchased the Petzl e+lite headlamp Eo2 for sailing at night. Fantastic product. The headlamp offers a small clip to fasten to your clothing or hat brim and an adjustable strap allows you to wear it around your head, arm or wrist. The light's beam swivels and is infinitely adjustable with selector switch for either red or white led lights. Red light saves your night vision and is bright enough to be useful. Features low (economy) or bright (full power) white light and a strobe function for red and white light. Stows in small plastic case. I used this light for one evening (10) ten hours. Don't know how long the batteries will last. With extra batteries, this headlamp will replace any standard flashlight that you now rely upon for most chores. I will purchase a couple more as a glove box item in our cars. Would make a great gift for hunters, boaters, campers, etc.
Great Ultralight Headlamp
I have purchased ten of these. They are more durable than other ultralight headlamps, such as the Black Diamond Ion, because the switch is more solid, and the whole thing is very watertight. The battery is easy to change, because the battery cover has a slot the size of a battery, so you use a battery as a screwdriver to open the cover.
The e+Lite deals with multiple modes better than other lights. Other lights cycle through the modes, where the e+Lite switch can be moved directly between On (dim) and Off.
The red flashing mode is good as a helmet taillight when bicycling.
The strap is thin, but adjusts and holds the light well. The cap-mount feature is solid. The self-stand feature is useful, but limited because it requires delicate balance. The batteries last longer than you'd expect, given that it is as bright as any typical three led light. As the battery wears out the High setting eventually equals the Dim setting. The Dim setting is appropriate for reading a book, and I've read hundreds of pages with it. The light tilts well, but you have to place it on your head right-side up; it won't tilt down if it is upside down, as an Ion and some other headlamps will.
The great thing is, it fits unnoticed in your pocket. Truly ultralightweight.
Awesome headlamp
I was skeptical of getting a headlamp -- I thought it would be annoying and clunky, not worth strapping to my head rather than holding in my hand. Not true at all! This headlamp is super light, with a thin strap; while camping, I forgot I was wearing it. The switch is easy to use and has plenty of off stops (so you don't have to click past "bright white" to turn it off). It was perfect for walking on the established path between the campsite and the lake; it was also just right for reading in my tent and for checking under the seats before returning a rental car. I love that it has both white and red settings (so you can preserve your night vision for stargazing), and I figure the flashing settings will be handy at some point for making me visible when walking on dark streets. I don't think I'd be comfortable walking through the woods (without a path) with this light -- on its high beam, it may not be bright enough to keep a careful eye both on the ground and on eye-level branches. But I haven't tried, and it might be fine. I think this headlamp is perfect for anyone who doesn't want a floodlight when camping and hiking.
