Rand McNally doesn't disappoint
I've used many Rand McNally Road Atlases over the years, 27 of those years spent driving semis. This is the best yet and highly recommended for those traveling America's highway system. While not detailed enough to replace the need for a gazetteer, this atlas is well-made and sturdy enough to take a lot of thumbing through! To borrow from the American Express ad, "Don't leave home without it!" An indispensable tool for making your travel vacation by land much more enjoyable!
Solution to the cover problem mentioned by others
We have always kept a copy of the Rand McNally Road Atlas in our vehicles; we find them to be invaluable when traveling on the road for basic directional help but also for find alternate scenic routes, etc.
As mentioned by several others, there is a bit of an issue with the vinyl covered edition. The cover can become torn and/or separated due to the thin paper and stapled binding in combination with the cover being tucked into the vinyl pockets on both sides. A haphazard toss of the atlas one day caused the entire book to separate from the cover on my copy. However, I found that by placing a rubberband in the center of the binding holds it all together perfectly.
We have since purchased newer copies and put a rubberband around them immediately. We have never had a problem with tearing or separation since. Hope this helps everyone!
Useful road atlas
This is a very nice and useful road atlas. The plastic cover is nice to have since the atlas gets a lot of wear both in the car and in the house. The reason I did not rate it higher is that the staples used to hold the pages are beginning to tear and will soon need some reinforcement. Rand McNally should consider improving this aspect of the atlas.
