Review
"[This guidebook] shows where to find bald eagles, buffaloes, restaurants and lodgings on less traveled roads from the Catskills to the Niagara region."--Home News Tribune (N.J.)
From the Back Cover
Tired of the same old tourist traps? Take the road less traveled and uncover the hidden attractions, unique finds, and unusual locales other guidebooks just don't offer. Off the Beaten Path® features the things you'd want to see—if only you knew about them! From the best in local dining to quirky cultural tidbits, you'll say over and over again: “I didn't know that!”
Discover a different side of the Empire State. Check out Wing’s Castle, the fabulously eccentric stone dwelling overlooking the Hudson Valley; prospect for “Herkimer diamonds” in Middleville; or stop in Elmira to see what Mark Twain called “the loveliest study you ever saw” (he should know—it was his). So if you've “been there, done that” one too many times, get off the main road and venture Off the Beaten Path.
About the Author
William G. and Kay Scheller are travel writers who have for decades combed the backstreets and two-lane blacktops of the Empire State. They currently live in Waterville, Vermont.

Some great trip ideas
The Off the Beaten Path books are a little hit or miss for me. New York is a huge state, but this book does a good job of covering parts from all over it. If you're looking for a specific area, then it may not have what you're looking for, but if you're looking for trip ideas, there are some fantastic ones. This book is great for early planning, but if you already have a trip planned, double check the table of contents to make sure it works for you.
