Product Description

These 500 tables are more than just practical places to set a coffee cup or notepad; they’re inspired works of art. Esteemed juror Andrew Glasgow has selected a wide array of styles and forms, from pieces that showcase masterful woodwork to ones that feature alternative materials and aesthetic sensibilities. The striking examples include Gord Peteran¹s end table fashioned from swirling red electrical wire, Boris Bally¹s small square transit table made of recycled aluminum traffic signs, and Stephen Whittlesey's "Eddy," which uses driftwood, salvaged oak, and chestnut. More than 300 artists are featured, and every work offers readers stunning craftsmanship, constant surprise, and beauty.

Wow! 500 Tables is a classic furniture gallery book.5
I own 500 Chairs: Celebrating Traditional & Innovative Designs (500 Series) and have been eagerly awaiting this new book's release, and I think 500 Tables is even better than that earlier (and terrific) one in this series. They pair together fantastically well. The tables of more than 300 artist-craftspeople (both master furniture makers and students) are included. Some feature classic forms, others shockingly inventive riffs on them. Most, although not all, of the pieces are wood-centric. Most of the photography is very good, although some is a bit out of focus and I wish fewer photos were trimmed right to the table without having more "breathing" room. Nonetheless, the works featured are inspiring, mind-opening, and sometimes quite humorous (intentionally so, I hope!). The book was juried by Andrew Glasgow of the American Craft Council, with a nice introduction from editor Ray Hemachandra. 500 Tables is a really fine gallery book I'm proud to partner with 500 Chairs.

Inspiring5
As a maker myself I am inspired, and believe that more people will be aware that furniture does not have to come from a huge manufacturer to be GOOD STUFF!! Can't get too much exposure. I wish I had submitted some of my tables!!!

Terrific Tables!5
What a great survey of pieces by leading furniture makers! This book of tables includes some great coffee tables, and that's right where it deserves to be: perched on the coffee table of your living room to be perused by friends and family. I'm so impressed by the creativity, high skill levels, and inventiveness of these modern furniture makers, and their work is displayed to great effect in this wonderful, fun book.
