Great for the Weber Performer Grill!5
The older style Weber Performer grill uses a large five pound tank to hold gas for igniting the charcoal. It wasn't uncommon for the tank to go five years or more between fill-ups, because it isn't used to cook with, just lighting the charcoal and turning it off.

So, it wasn't a bad tradeoff when Weber revised their popular Performer grill and changed to small, disposable propane tanks like those used in hand-held torches. They don't require refilling, don't take up much space, and last a fairly long time as long as the gas is quickly (and manually) shut off after about five minutes.

For those of us who use the grill a lot, the tanks seem a little small, and a little wasteful. They aren't too expensive, but a heavy user can go through three or four of them a year, more if the gas is left on a little longer than the recommended five minutes.

Weber makes a six foot hose adapter for their portable gas grill, the Weber Q. It connects between the inlet for the bottle and the outlet on the propane tank. If you read the reviews over there, however, you'll find that it has a fatal flaw: it is made out of tasty squirrel food! No kidding, apparently the squirrels see it, bite it, and it leaks, sometimes in just a few days after installation.

This hose is wrapped with stainless steel braiding, which squirrels can't bite through. It also helps make the hose last longer as it keeps any bulging from the underlying rubber hose to a minimum, and protects against abrasion. This is why permanently installed gas lines are required by code to have a stainless steel sheath.

I was worried about the much shorter length (three feet instead of six), but it turns out it was exactly the right length. The hose doesn't have to go from the inlet to the floor, just the inlet to the top of the tank where the outlet is. Three feet is just the right length to run to a tank beside the grill, so at least for the Performer grill, this is the one to get.

One gotcha with this is they used RPT threads on the connection to the tank. This is plumber-speak for turn the head counter-clockwise to tighten it instead of clockwise like everything else. When it first came, I thought it didn't fit because I turned and turned and the threads never engaged. Then I remembered the thread thing and turned it the other way, and that solved it.

Highly recommended!

Works for the Weber Baby Q (Q 100) grill5
The stainless steel mesh covering on this propane tank hose adapter makes it superior to the rubber coated adapters you will see from other manufacturers. I actually bought this to use with a Weber Q100 portable grill, and it works just fine, and it appears it will work with most portable grills that take 14.1 ounce propane cylinders. The reason I bought this one is that squirrels ate through my two previous rubber-coated adapters, so I needed something that would deter them. It works great and the so far the rodents haven't been able to chew through it.

It's Greeeeeeeat!5
I was going to buy the rubber gas hose. I thought this one was too expensive, but when you add in the outrageous shipping they've tacked onto the rubber one this thing comes out rather nicely priced.
No chipmunks would dare nibble on it and it's the perfect length for the Weber Q on the picnic table.
