Product Description

Often compared to the sounds of Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, and Common, Kero One is a full time deejay, producer, musician, rapper, and record label owner from San Francisco. Kero One s professional career began when he released his first single in 2003 called Check the Blueprints . The single unexpectedly sold 9,000 units worldwide with funding from only a personal credit card and hardly any marketing push from outside sources. Five 12" singles later comes Windmills of The Soul, Kero One's long anticipated debut LP, running 13 tracks strong. Released in Japan several months earlier, Windmills of The Soul has reached #2 of 200 on the hip hop HMV and Tower Records charts, plus held the title in the top 100 hiphop downloaded Itunes Albums for 3 months straight.

With the Windmills LP, one can expect more timeless jazz meets hip hop energy that many have come to enjoy from Kero One. Going further than just reconstructing samples, Kero One also plays a variety of instruments on the album (moog synths, fender Rhodes, bass etc.) and brings in live session players paired with vocalists to blend the organic feel of live musicianship with the rawness of sample based hip hop.

On the lyrical side, Kero One rhymes about real life stories and topics that have helped define his character and musical career.

|| hip hop for the soul; it's better than chicken soup ||5
I usually listen to my iPod when I'm driving, but when I picked up this album a few months ago, I immediately popped it into my car and over night somehow forgot that it was in the player. When I turned my car on again, I listened to the entire album and seriously thought to myself, "Wow, this station has really improved lately! Maybe I should actually start listening to the radio again." [But no, it was Kero One, and I still don't listen to the radio.]

This album is LEGIT. Definitely a mellow album - I don't know what you consider hip hop, and I'm sure I lump a lot of things into that category too. This has more of a jazz tip to it; if you're looking for some hyphy ish, I'd keep looking. Much props to Kero One for showing people that Bay Area hip hop/rap/whatever isn't all about E-40 [and don't get me wrong, I'm all about E-40 - but I do appreciate variety].

Wow5
I'm a big hiphop fan and this is one of my all time favourite albums. The beats are amazing, very jazzy, and every single one gets my head nodding, just like a great beat should.

Kero's flow is smooth and relaxing, and the lyrics are deep and intelligent, touching many different aspects of every day life.

All the songs are great, it's one of those rare albums where you don't feel the need to skip a single song.

So if you like jazzy, soulful hiphop I can't recommend this enough.

Great album. Definately worth my money.5
I bought this album on a recommendation from okayplayer.com and was more than satisfied when i got this. The production is awesome, it reminds me of classic common sense and theres not really one garbage track on here. i highly highly recommend it...its worth your time.
