Inspiring Collaboration5
It's all too common to find techno-style music remixes that have butchered the original song into near-unrecognizability. Not so with 'Spirits From Tuva'. Malerija has done a beautiful job of augmenting, rather than overpowering, the rich and resonant traditional vocals. The tracks on this album range from merely bolstered with subtle electronic additions, to 'modernized' with a more contemporary sound, while still remaining true to the ancient sound of the songs themselves. I will never say that these songs have been 'rejuvenated', but I'm an avid enthusiast of the multi-tonal throat / overtone singing. The ancient emotion and evocative sound-association are what strike me so deeply when listening to the originals. However, I will say that these 'youthful' remixes have great potential to appeal to a wider audience because of the addition of deeper and more easily heard rhythms from Malerija.

I like to consider myself an eclectic listener; Yo-Yo Ma, The Bulgarian Voices and an album of Gregorian Chants make their home in my playlist alongside modern techno / trance (PPK, Enigma) and practically everything in between, in various doses. It is with this self-imposed label that I applaud the artful, respectful weaving of the traditional with the modern, the blending of an ancient marvel with contemporary vigor.

This is a spectacular album and, if you have the good fortune to see this collaboration perform live, there is no mistaking the enjoyment the artists themselves derive from creating this sonic magic.

fascinating remix5
This has become a standard in my home and car... throat singing solid performances remixed with a wide variety of styles from new age to techno, a thrill ride for the ears! I've enjoyed the more tradition music of Huun Huur Tu but this one goes a step beyond.
