Handy -- but frustrating
The LED portion gives a good, clear, workable but not very bright illumination. The fluorescent portion is also useful, workable, and extremely handy at times to illuminate an entire, small work area -- saves having to shine a regular flashlight over here, over there, and back again repeatedly. There are, however, two frustrations: 1) the switch is very flaky, especially for the fluorescent portion; sometimes it takes more than a dozen flicks to turn it "on" and other times just one. 2) the whole device is angled to stand it with the LED end down on a table, desk, floor, workbench, etc. and have the fluorescent portion tilted backward by about 22.5 degrees so as to shine light UPward -- and right into the user's eyes.

A better design might have been a backside hook to suspend the fluorescent portion horizontally from some place above the user's eyes.

Perfect portable area light.
This little light is a perfect addition to any home or vehicle emergency kit. The LED flashlight function is good for general use but not very bright. The real advantage of this light is the mini cold cathode flourescent light and it's use of only 4 AA-batteries. I've used these lights in power failures and they provide more than adequate light for 1 room - I'm surprised at the amount of output from such a thin tube. The cost is relatively low so you can afford a bunch of them to use throughout the home in the event of a power failure. I have used this light on multiple occasions as a night light for our new puppy and the battery life outlasted small regular tubed 4-AA flashlights hands down.
