A terrifying child-in-jeopardy thriller in which dark family secrets threaten to obstruct the finding of a missing ten-year-old girl.
Ben Brice is a drunk living alone in the New Mexico wilderness, where he custom builds furniture and battles memories of Vietnam with oceans of Jim Beam. Miles away in Texas, his estranged son, John, an Internet geek-turned-billionaire, half-watches his daughter Gracie's soccer game while on his cell phone. When her mother Elizabeth arrives, the coach reports that her "uncle" has already collected Gracie. But Gracie has no uncle--she was kidnapped.
From international bestselling author Mark Gimenez comes a terrifying child-in-jeopardy thriller in which dark family secrets make the finding of missing ten-year-old Gracie Brice more uncertain with every passing minute. And so begins a furious race against time to save Gracie from unknown kidnappers. With the FBI camped out in the Brice mansion, the family offers a reward of $25 million. Somehow, Ben and John must find Gracie before it is too late. As the story unfolds with dramatic twists and turns, the reader discovers that behind the kidnapping is an extraordinary government plot to assassinate the President of the United States. And time is running out....

Review
John R. Brice should be on top of the world: he's brilliant, has a beautiful family, and his company's about to go public, which will make him a multimillionaire. But when his ten-year-old daughter is kidnapped, which exposes fractures in the Brice family, John would give it all up in a heartbeat to get her back. More than just a kidnap-for-ransom, though, Gracie's abduction is part of a plot that threatens the White House. When the FBI and local law enforcement close the case, it's John's father, Ben, a Vietnam vet, who helps the Brice family unravel the long-held secrets that hold the key to Gracie's return. In his dynamic follow-up to The Color of Law, Gimenez has written a startling, multilayered thriller in which complex characters and a fast-moving plot grab the reader immediately. Smart dialog and a spunky Gracie, who never loses her cool, make for a memorable read that twists and turns until the final, cinematic conclusion. Highly recommended for all public libraries. -- From Library Journal. Starred review...

From AudioFile
When a girl from a wealthy suburban family is abducted, her loved ones react in very individual ways. Buck SchirnerÕs voices parallel the personalities of GracieÕs family members, all of whom have their demons. He lends an introspective persona to her grandfather, who must confront his past in Vietnam. He energetically portrays GracieÕs independent mother, who explodes in rages at those around her, a pattern that masks a trauma in her past. And he gives a friendly tone to GracieÕs successful father, who must break free from an unhappy childhood. In their own ways they each love Gracie. Through subtle and effective accents and emotional tones, Schirner captures that love. M.B. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

Could not put it down!
I just finished reading this book, and Mr. Gimenez has written another great book. I have to admit, I do feel like the story takes the reader suspending belief somewhat, but it didn't matter. The story grabbed me from the beginning, and I thought it was a good book. And then something happens, to change the tone of the book a little, and it took off. I could not put it down. I had about 5 pages left, and a neighbor knocked on my door, it took all I had not to be rude to her, I HAD TO FINISH THIS BOOK!! I look forward to Mr. Gimenez's next one, and if you missed his first, The Color of Law, I suggest you read that one as well.
Great read!
I too have waited impatiently for Mr. Gimenez to publish his second novel. The Abduction was worth the wait. I couldn't put it down and really appreciated his character development. His first novel, Color of Law, was also excellent but he has taken his writing to a new level in The Abduction. Great read!
Blown away!!
I became a fan of Mark with his first book and was VERY impatiently waiting for his second. Well it's here and............. it DID NOT let me down! This book is so extremely fast paced that you almost feel bad (almost) for finishing it so quickly. I'm not one for telling about the plot because you can read that above, I just want to tell you that this will definatly be in your 'Top 5 of favorite books I've read this year'.
I'm telling you guys, do yourself a favor and buy this book! It really is that good and Mark has a style that few authors have. He KEEPS you reading, and reading, and reading.
