Customer Reviews
U2 getting hotter!
This song is great by all levels. There are so many elements to this song, that after many listenings I am still amazed at how vastly layered it is, but yet the sound seems so simple. Though one review has stated that this song is 'all over the place', it is not. It's not Vertigo just for that reason. There are three seperate elements to this song, and the fact that U2 have the craft and ablity to combine all three elements together in a comprehensive manner, in a fast 150 bpm tempo, while still doing a great job vocally (you can hear Brian Eno's work with Coldplay on Viva with most of the backing vocals) is astonishing. As a musician myself I am awwed. Granted it's not the most deeply emotional song U2 has ever done, but it's not suppose to be either, Bono says it right in the lyrics 'I don't want to talk about wars between nations'. I can't wait to experience the soundscape U2 carve on this album, rather or not this album will be rocking or experimental, at least U2 have the guts to try and make something different each time (though I wish myself that it wouldn't take so long). No matter what, this song is a rocker, and it beats at least 95% of what's being put out.
Something new!
This is a good song! U2 fans will notice a few things about this song; its 'U2ey' and almost brings something from they days of 'Boy', its somehow new (like Vertigo Pt. 2), its somehow old all at the same time (Elvis Costello? Temptations? Beatles?). Is it worth the $1? Yes. It will make you turn your head and you'll want to leave it on repeat for at least 3 times.
Oh, and being the first single released for their upcoming album, it has me excited. So I guess that should be a good sign.
