Product Description

This book takes you around the world in search of the
great beers and provides a fascinating insight into the
history of the world's major beer styles and the
different brewing methods that created them.

Each beer is discussed, the taste is described and, best of all, a recipe provided, chosen to represent a particular style. (For example, Lowenbrau is chosen to represent a Bavarian lager.) The recipes do not try to replicate a particular brand but show you how to brew in the general style of a country or area -- allowing you to learn and experiment until you create a beer to your taste. Beers selected for the book are widely available all over the world and recipes include:

German Pilsner • North European Pilsner • Helles Bock • American/Canadian Light • American Premium • New Zealand Premium • Australian Standard • English Pale and Dark Bitters • Special Bitters • Brown Ale • English Mild Irish Red Ale • Scottish Heavy Pale Ale • Stout • Australian Sparkling • Belgian Trappist • Bavarian Weizen

Great Beers of the World has the latest information on beer and brewing -- including brewing equipment -- and is a valuable book for both beginners and experienced brewers, with clearly written, easy-to-follow instructions. It is essential reading for all lovers of beer.

Customer Reviews

Good introductory book (for Aussies)4
This book is a well written, pleasant and informative read for beginners to home brewing. It appears better suited than many others I've seen for those starting out as it keeps the recipes simple and recognises the limitations of available ingredients in this country. The main drawback with this is approach that most will progress quickly from the book and it does not provide any stepping stone from Kits to Full Mash. A bit of a flaw is the lack of attention (and emphasis on) to yeast strains(and a lesser degree info about hops and hopping) which are now quite readily available and make such a dramatic difference in quality and character. Nevertheless the book is great as an introduction and is unlikely to scare of potential newcomers to the art with overwelming technical details - the perfect gift to get someone else hooked?

Alright book, but not the best available3
This book is okay for homebrewers but it doesn't cover the basis. Save your money and buy Charlie Papazian's Joy of Homebrewing - it's cheaper, great for beginners and advanced brewers and has tons more information.
