Product Description

Fred Basset is without doubt the acknowledged authority on slipper gnawing, newspaper collection, and postman harassment, and his wonderfully dry wisecracks now grace publications worldwide. This is another top-notch collection of cartoons from the Daily Mail's classic Fred Basset strip, featuring one of the most endearing and enduring of Britain's cartoon heroes. The Fred Basset books are collector's items, and sell out each year.

About the Author
Born in Scotland, Alex Graham began selling cartoons to magazines during World War II. He created a comic strip, "Wee Hughie", in 1945 and continued this feature until about 1970 in the Dundee Weekly News. Graham produced two other comics, "Our Bill" and "Briggs the Butler" in 1946. On July 9, 1963, Graham began the comic strip with which he is most closely associated: "Fred Basset". The strip still continues in the "Daily Mail" and "Mail on Sunday", and a book of the Fred cartoons is published every year.

Customer Reviews

Fred, truly a dog among dogs!4
After The Chicago Tribune killed off "Fred Basset" for tripe that better fitted their demographics target, I was forced to read good old Fred from an internet subscription. (Older annuals are still available on eBay.) The 2004 Orion book is available from Amazon and Amazon Marketplace. Buy it now and buy the 2005 edition before it sells out. Unfortunately, the annual does not reprint the Sundays and not even all the year's worth of dailies. But, still a great collection!
