Product Description

This title documents Obama's unprecedented journey to the White House. This is a beautifully produced commemorative album of newspaper pages depicting landmarks in his campaign. This is the only book to include front covers, speeches and photographs from Obama's initial declaration of candidacy, his Democratic nomination, election and inauguration. When Barack Obama became president - elected on the 4th of November 2008 - he transformed Martin's Luther King's dream into reality. Obama, and the 66.3 million Americans who voted for him, proved to the world that all things are possible and the day after, people the world over lined up to buy newspapers as souvenirs. The demand was unprecedented, with stands and shops quickly selling out. Featuring over 100 domestic and foreign newspapers and depicting all the landmarks in Obama's groundbreaking campaign, this gorgeous commemorative album documents an important part of history, that now everybody can own. This stunning keepsake is a must-have for all who experienced this remarkable moment...and for future generations, too.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
This "commemorative album" could serve as a somewhat basic pathfinder to the Obama newspaper record online. Some 120 front pages are shown in full color, captioned with their web addresses, from only the following dates: August 29, 2008 (Obama's nomination acceptance); November 5, 6, and 7, 2008 (his election); and January 21, 2009 (the inauguration). Pull quotes in a large font are offered on neighboring pages in some cases. There's also the full text of five Obama speeches: announcing his candidacy; accepting the nomination; speaking after his election victory; his inaugural address; and, oddly placed after the inauguration, his speech in March 2008 on the Reverend Wright and race. There's no listing of the newspapers included and no rationale offered for why these particular ones were chosen. The selection is worldwide, so several are not in English (only the banner headlines are translated). With insufficient apparatus to make this a reference tool, it's an optional selection.—MH

From Booklist
One of the more curious events that took place on the day after Barack Obama’s election to the presidency was the run on newspapers documenting the historic moment—and this while the death knell tolls for daily papers across the country. Somehow it was as if the monumental news of Obama’s triumph had to be seen in print to be believed. This attractive coffee-table book collects newspaper front pages from all 50 states and from 28 countries and, in so doing, captures the enormity of the moment. Along with the front pages from papers the day after the election, the volume also gathers a sampling of Inauguration Day front pages and provides a review of the Obama campaign. Also included are the texts of Obama’s speeches accepting the presidential nomination and thanking his supporters on election night in Chicago’s Grant Park. A selection of 20 memorable photos accompanies the speeches, which are so attractively designed that browsers may take time to read them before moving on to the front pages, which are the heart of the book. --Ilene Cooper

Amazing!!5
With all of the books about President Barack Obama, it's kind of hard deciding which ones to purchase. I pre-ordered this book and thought that it would be great to see front page newpapers all over the country showcasing his election and his inauguration. Well, this book definitely fit the bill. I love it!! I kind of wished the paper was a bit thicker and glossier, but it has the exact content I was hoping for.
I would definitely recommend this book and think that it would be a great gift for anyone who wants to remember this historic election and presidency!

OBAMA IN A NEW LIGHT!!!5
There are several reasons why I think this book is amazing. One, the pages almost feel like newsprint, which I assume was intentional being that the book is called "The Historic Front Pages". Two, the speeches are way easier to read in this form than in any other form I have seen. For the first time, I feel like I have read the whole speech, not just an excerpt. Three, I think it's amazing that you can not only see these newspapers from around the world but also read them. (the ones in English anyway)

In general I feel like for every Obama supporter out there, that read every newspaper, and looked at every picture, they now have everything in one place, in a beautiful, well crafted coffee table book. It is the perfect way to preserve this amazing time in our lives!

Cheap paper (NOT acid free) brings down this books score.2
The book is well written and the cover pages are amazing to see. although in many cases they are small, so if you want to READ part of the cover pages you will need great vision or a magnifying glass.

this book is NOT a must have. this book is in matter, lightweight paper that is NOT acid free. a coffee table book like this needs to be thick high quality paper that is glossy. so keep that in mind.
