Product Description

Provocative, sometimes controversial, and always clever, the more than 400 cartoons by some 160 cartoonists in this collection present the sharpest political and cultural commentary on the year's major newsworthy events. Congressional politics, the war in Iraq, the Olympics, the brutal presidential campaign season, and the historic presidential election of Barack Obama provided ample fodder for the witty wiles of the country's leading cartoonists.

From the energy crisis to the mortgage crisis, these cartoons span the spectrum from liberal to conservative and include contributions from outstanding artists, including the recipients of the Pulitzer Prize, the National Headliner Award, and the Herblock Prize. As in any election year, the presidential hopefuls found themselves the objects of the cartoonists' slings and barbs, and this collection exceptionally highlights the ups and downs of each candidate's campaign, from Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin to John McCain, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama.

Pelican has presented this compilation of the country's most outstanding editorial cartoons since 1972. Cleverly conceived and exceptionally executed, the pieces in this collection present a panorama of exceptional pictorial digs and gibes inked by the year's finest editorial cartoonists.

From the Back Cover
Provocative and clever, these more than 400 editorial cartoons by some 165 cartoonists offer incisive commentary on virtually every headline topic of a historic year. The rancorous presidential campaign and the historic election of the country's first black president, a tumbling world economy, and roller-coaster oil prices--combined with the triumphs and foibles of the world's newsmakers--provided ample fodder for leading cartoonists everywhere. From the energy crisis to the mortgage crisis, from Barack Obama and John McCain to Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin, this compilation presents pithy perspectives on the major events and personalities of the day. They are sure to delight--or perhaps infuriate--liberals, conservatives, and middle-of-the-roaders, as well as advocates of just about any point of view.

Humor makes the tough times palatable4
Read a few pages at a sitting. They seem to get better and better.
I recomend this book for all who have an open mind. JBC

Solid entry in the series.5
Another solid collection of political cartoons, as edited by Charles Brooks. Many of the cartoons deal with our historic election of Barack Obama as our president. Also covered are Hillary Clinton, the war in Iraq, "W," etc.

My only complaint? I wish there would be more cartoons present in these books. I love editorial cartoons, and this book could be double the size and I'd still want more!
