A Waste of Time and Money
As a start, please read C Serrano's review of the same author's "The Rule of Money". Much of what C Serrano said can be transplanted here. I too found myself trying to get to rule 100 just to be rid of the innane and trite writing once and for all.
I read his Rule of Work, which was quite good. The writer has moved into unfamiliar territory about money and wealth, and it shows so clearly. Here are some examples of his trite writing. See if you agree:
Rule 43 - Don't rent, buy <-- very dangerous advice
Rule 59 - Control spending impulses
Rule 60 - Don't answer ads that promise get-rich-quick schemes
Rule 79 - Don't follow the same route as everyone else
Rule 92 - You really, really can't tale it with you
The writer has a terrific franchise in "The rules of ...". It's an attention-grabber. That's a great thing going for him but not for unwitting readers like myself.
Easy to read, common sense advice
Like all 'self-help' books, this one needs to be read with a pinch of salt, and the 'one size fits all' advice is not for everyone. Still, for the discerning and alert reader, there is alot of good stuff in here. I suppose it's mostly common sense, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded. The book is probably not much use to those who haven't already come to some of some of his conclusions, such as
money is the friend, not an enemy
money doesn't make you happy
don't envy what others have
once you have it, don't flaunt it
If you need to be told these things, you're not ready for this book - or to be wealthy. The book is really just a distillation of what you ought to know already. Of course, it isn't going to make you rich!
Good, entertaining read though.
