Easy To Make Disappear
I wanted a light weight dryer that I could easily remove once the clothes were dried because the best place to put it was right in the middle of my deck. I set it up so that it goes through the umbrella hole of my patio table into the umbrella weight below. It works great and you can use the table to fold the laundry on. No digging, no concrete. Simple, simple, simple.
It is so easy to set up and remove. For me, the light weight construction is a plus. Being able to remove and store it also keeps the lines clean. If it were permanently installed, you would probably have to clean the lines every time you used it.
I love using this product. I save $$$ on my energy bill, the laundry smells great- especially the sheets, and it is very satisfying to complete a chore the way my grandmother used to do it.
Save the planet but not your time
To install you find a place where it won't create an eyesore and dig a hole, fill bottom of hole with rocks, pour in concrete, bury an included plastic tube, put pole in and level. This take about a half an hour. If you have the shovel, concrete, rocks, bucket, and a level.
I like this product it provides enough space to hang at least 3 of my laundry loads. If you have never air dried laundry outside before I recommend getting some socks wet and letting them dry on your porch to get the effect and gauging if you can deal with the fact that some times they don't come out the softest. The other bummer is it takes more time to hang them up than throwing them in the dryer. The clothesline does spin in the base though so you don't have to move while hanging laundry so it isn't that bad. It also comes out so you can store the clothesline somewhere else.
It is a good feeling to know that I am not running my dryer for 50 minutes a load though and I think more people should experience it.
Works well for the price
Could not find one of these outdoor umbrella dryers locally, so searched Amazon and found one, cost was around 56 bucks with shipping, I believe. I already had the ground pipe from an earlier unit, so did not have to go through the hassle of digging and cementing. The cords are somewhat loose, but can be tied shorter easily. The opening mechanics are simple, but I lubed the pole with a wax-based bicycle chain lube and it slides much easier than without. This is a Chinese product so I do not expect much. I don't leave it out in bad Oregon weather (rain) so I think it will do well. If it lasts four to five summers, then I will be happy. Delivery time from the vendor was good.
