With my daughter, I used My Breast Friend when she was smaller (for better support) and the Boppy when she was older. With my son, he's heavy so I still use My Breast Friend to give my arms a break from holding him. Bring with you to the hospital to help getting breast-feeding off to a good start.

I bought Baby's Textiles DSQ Prefolds from thanksmama.com. I bought 8 infant size 4x6x4 (meaning 4 layers on each side and 6 layers in the middle) and 6 baby size 4x8x4. They work extremely well - stayed soft, lasted through many many washes, won't pill up.

We sit it on one of those plastic storage bins to elevate it. When your baby is still small, roll up a cloth diaper to put under his bottom so he won't slide down.

Get one with a changing table on top and a bassinet. We never really used it as a playpen. But it's very helpful having it set up in the living room/family room where you just need to put the baby down so you can do something for five minutes. We probably used the changing table part the most.
