Review

"Written by the 'Who's Who' of neurosurgery. The very first chapter...by Dr. Albert L. Rhoton Jr. is a must-read... The real power of this atlas lies in the clarity and simplicity of its illustrations and procedural descriptions. On this account, the book is excellent. Each chapter is richly illustrated with detailed yet simple graphics that communicate the salient issues of each procedure. [Illustrators] Jennifer Pryll and Tony Pazos...are to be commended for their high-quality work and the impact of their contributions throughout the text. ...A typical Thieme textbook with the standard dark blue and silver cover graphic...of high-quality..this text is a good value and should be strongly considered as a meaningful addition to one's collection of basic neurosurgical textbooks."--Journal of Neurosurgery<br><br>"Written by authoritative educators in their respective fields to produce an exemplary operative brain atlas...very well organized...The individual chapters are concise yet highly informative. The organization of each chapter allows for a quick review on relevant anatomy, anesthetic considerations, surgical indications, surgical technique, complications, and postoperative care, with a succinct conclusion. The sections on surgical indication give a detailed step-by-step approach, highlighting pitfalls and also management of intraoperative complications. The illustrations are straightforward and easy to follow without sacrificing useful detail...This book is a must for any neurosurgical library."--Otology & Neurotology<br><br>"This book is a compendium of a large proportion of the current neurosurgical approaches and ways of thinking in neurosurgical practice. The topics have been carefully selected to reflect a general neurosurgeon's regular caseload, in addition to providing comprehensive discussion on subspecialty topics.. In all chapters, a comprehensive review of the topic is presented along with superb drawings and graphs and references. This is a superb piece of work that is well worth its price. This is an excellent source of information for neurosurgeons who want a comprehensive update on current techniques and literature. This book is a must in any neurosurgical library."--Doody's Book Reviews

Excellent neurosurgical atlas5
I am a neurosurgery resident and I have found that this atlas is superb. When deciding which atlas to buy, there are many factors to take into consideration (price, readability, breadth, depth, etc...). I believe that this book (and it's spine counterpart) really surpass Schmidek's book and Kempe's book in that regard. The pictures of key aspects of the operation are bountiful and in color. The text is cogent and serves its purpose well. The information is current and well referenced. The range of topics is expansive and the depth is just right (after all, the purpose of an atlas is to learn how to do the operation, leave the "fluff" to a series like youman's). As a resident early in my training, I recommend this book. I have found it extremely helpful. I don't own many neurosurgery books right now, but this was my best purchase thusfar.
