Product Description

In The Mastery of Love, don Miguel Ruiz illuminates the fear-based beliefs and assumptions that undermine love and lead to suffering and drama in relationships. Using insightful stories to bring his message to life, Ruiz shows listeners how to heal emotional wounds, recover the freedom and joy that are every person's birthright, and restore the spirit of playfulness that is vital to loving relationships. Noted readers Jill Eikenberry and Michael Tucker present the insights in a compelling way, exploring such questions as: why "domestication" and the "image of perfection" lead to self-rejection; how the war of control slowly destroys most relationships; why people hunt for love in others; how to capture the love inside; and how to finally accept and forgive oneself and others. Not a quick fix, this audio shows listeners how to practice being oneself without judgment, a powerful process that leads to fulfillment and a new sense of self.

Editorial Reviews

From AudioFile
The human mind is afflicted with a disease called fear--a chronic vigilance about being hurt that causes negative behaviors. The author says that awareness, freedom, and love are the essence of who we really are, and are central to the Toltec tradition, which was practiced in southern Mexico by ancient artists and scientists. There are both mental health and spiritual aspects to these teachings, which emphasize the ways we distort life's potentials and diminish our own power. Though Ruiz is an excellent and compact writer, his message of opportunity falls short of inspiring in this recording by two otherwise talented actors. The narration makes the work sound uneven and overly intellectual. T.W. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

About the Author
Don Miguel Ruiz was born into a family of healers, and raised in rural Mexico by a curandera (healer) mother and a nagual (shaman) grandfather. The family anticipated that Miguel would embrace their centuries-old legacy of healing and teaching, and carry forward the esoteric Toltec knowledge. Instead, distracted by modern life, Miguel chose to attend medical school and become a surgeon.

A near-death experience changed his life. Stunned by this experience, he began an intensive practice of self-inquiry. He devoted himself to the mastery of the ancient ancestral wisdom, studying earnestly with his mother, and completing an apprenticeship with a powerful shaman in the Mexican desert. In the tradition of the Toltecs, a nagual guides an individual to personal freedom. Don Miguel Ruiz is a nagual from the Eagle Knight lineage, and he is dedicated to sharing his knowledge of the teachings of the ancient Toltecs. He is the author of The Mastery of Love, ISBN: 1-878424-42-4; The Four Agreements, ISBN: 1-878424-31-9;and The Four Agreements Cards, ISBN: 1-56170-877-1.

Customer Reviews

The narrator is vital2
There is no doubt this is a worthwhile book, however, know that the narrators have a very different delivery from Don Miguel's previous books.
I'm used to Peter Coyote narrating Don Miguel Ruiz's books. He takes his time, there are spaces between words and sentences so one can absorb what is being said. Unfortunately, the 2 narrators for this book do not have the same method, rather, it sounds like they are reading the book verbatim, no feeling, no thought... just reading text. The woman's voice is too light and too quick to give weight & depth to the text and there are no spaces for reflection. Perhaps the cards make it a good buy, I don't know as I purchased just the audio from audible.com.

nice for a gift or yourself4
Small colorful cards with uplifting messages. Good if you don't want to read the book and just get the jist of the author's overall message.
