Product Description

My name is Starlett Ray and I am Urban Fiction's most notorious vixen and newest IT GIRL . Don't really know how I ended up on top of so many people's black ball list within this industry, but the hate far exceeds the love. Despite the mounds of hate, I have been able to stiletto step my way towards the top in the face of the Candyland games some folk fancy to play. I struggled through the not so good times and finally reached the pot of pink diamonds on the other side of the ghetto rainbow. Enter the infamous and notorious world of publishing: the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good: Writing and the journey behind the words, characters, and editing process. The bad: Being tricked and treated by far removed publishers sitting in their ivory towers, rockstar graphic designers, devious publicists making promises they can't keep, and wanna be balling out of control authors who have the publishing industry confused with the dope game from the 80's and 90's. The ugly: Being gossiped about and frowned upon by industry so called elite since I did things a little different than they did to try to get MY book published. In addition to learning the woes of becoming an author, you are also given a first class seat inside of my private life, married to a platinum rapper. It's the best of both worlds as Hip-Hop and Urban Literature collide within the pages of Notorious...Fasten your seatbelt for a wild, whimsical, and fanciful ride in the Bentley of Urban Fiction tales. Venesha Does It Again5
There are two themes that ring true with Notorious: "When Power walks in the room, that other P, is somewhere lamping in the cut." The other theme is "You can't hold a good woman down." Unlike the protagonist, Channing L. Golden in Venesha's 1st novel, Mistres Me, the everyday woman can relate to Starlett Ray. Though Channing overcame challenges, she was the type of woman you loved and hated throughout the book. Anxiously waiting for karma to bring her a 24kt gold rimmed plate of crow. Yet with Starlett Ray, I felt like every time she would do good, evil was bringing her Tiffany baby blue wrapped presents.(gotta know your bible to relate to the aforementioned statement)

Through the luxurious life she leads, Starlett Ray is no different than any other woman. She wants love, respect and the option to live out her dreams. Nestled in her celebrity life, Starlett Ray is a mother and career woman that has found herself living her life on repeat in her second marriage. To escape and find her "own" she invites herself into the genre known as Urban Literature. Debuting her novel, "Mistress Me" without an agent or major publishing house doesn't come without backlash from the industry or disruption in her home. But Starlett Ray welcomes the challenge and evolves into a better woman for it.

With Notorious, Venesha pulls back the veil on the inner workings of the book publishing game's new cash cow; all the while bringing out the reader's inner sisterhood. I found myself rooting for Starlett Ray to get her just due in love and as a new author. Mistress Me, proved Venesha could contend with the who's who in Urban Lit but with Notorious she has grown and raised the bar for your favorite Urban Lit author.

Do your eyes and imagination a favor, put down the D-Boy, Gangsta, Bottom Bi#$h type novel and grab this must read. 5 Stars across the board.
