An ideal vehicle for teaching the art of songs as national stories, Sing America is both enjoyable for its musical selections and educational for kids and those who aren't. The standard fare is here in the form of Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man," LeAnn Rimes singing "God Bless America," and Cher singing the national anthem. Each song is compellingly rendered and entertaining enough to enchant and instruct, as are the range of other pop items. Frank Sinatra's here, as is Paul Simon, the latter singing "Graceland," which, with Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke," serves up a lesson in American popular culture as history. An inclusive collection, Sing America also encourages an open-minded look at American history, including O'Landa Draper's Associates singing a medley of "American the Beautiful" and "We Shall Overcome" and Peter, Paul & Mary piping in with "This Land Is Your Land." If nothing more, Sing America provides an excellent opportunity to consider and discuss the way America tells its stories through songs, and adults and children alike will benefit from that. --Andrew Bartlett

Great Music for A Family Road Trip or Summer Picnic4
This album is an absolute treat. It is wonderful to have these artists music together in this one album. Even before 9/11, I had been planning on sending this album to everyone on my Christmas list. Now it's even more meaningful than ever. And best of all, proceeds from it help to pay for the restoration of America's treasures, such as the flag that flew over Fort McHenry during the writing of the National Anthem. Just so you know, the restoration of our country's treasures was one of the main objectives of former First Lady, now Senator, Hillary Rodham Clinton. There is music on this CD you will definitely want your children to know. Plus, it's fun listening to it.

A very moving compilation5
I can't say enough good about the diversity of this wonderful cd.It is amazing to hear artists from three generations equally evocative, and all individual in style and delivery. The cd starts with Bernsteins master work on "Fanfare for the common man"another of his superb Copland interpretations. I love Sinatra and his rendition of "The House I live In".And the variety and heart-felt music keeps on going. Folk is represented by Judy Collins and Arlo Guthrie,as well as the great Bob Dylan doing his perennial "Blowin in the wind".I listen to this cd often, and it truly represents America in musical(popular) form to me. It's the house we live in!!
Perhaps a few cuts are lesser in quality, like Rondtadt's delivery of "Livin' in the USA".Cher does her one up with her splendid reading of "The Star Spangled Banner".I don't know if I personally would have included Leeann Rimes, but all performances are better than than mediocre.Buy it for Thanksgiving, when everyone is appreciating being at home, and together.

Its Alright3
This CD is alright. I think that some of the selections for tracks are unusally for a CD trying to be a patriotic CD. I would of like to see a couple of songs by Sousa or Gershiwn along with the ones included here. The exlusion of Jimi Hendrix rendition of the National Athem is a crime because its is such a great version done by a rock star. This CD would be perfect for the 4th of July bar-b-que in a shuffle with some other party music. This CD would also be perfect for little kids on a road trip to sing along with. It would of just been better with some better selections of tracks on it, hopefully they might make a Sing America 2
