Not Quite What I Expected
I purchased Drama Queens hoping it would be a sim-like game, where I would progress through fashion objectives and mini-games to solve Boyfriend and girlfriend drama. What I got was a virtual board game. There are no mini-games in this game.
When the game starts up you have the choice of either playing the game alone (against the computer) or multiplayer (which is a single card play where you pass the DS back and forth, or wireless play where you need to have more then one game cards)You can also choose the fashion boutique which is were you can spend your money buying new outfits, boyfriends and best friends for all the girls.
If you choose to play the game alone, you can either play the story mode or free play which is sort of like playing a quick game. There you can chouse the number of rounds, turns, text speed, or to turn it off and whether you want to see all the animation.
In the story mode you start off with the choice of being one of four girls, Chelsi, Devon, Macy or Bailey. Each girl has their own personalities. No matter who you decide to be, you begin playing the board game with your new boss teaching you how to play the game. The game board is set up in a continuing bunch of loops and circles. Every path is a different color that corresponded with the sections, boyfriend, bff, and career. Also there are paths marked as drama paths where something good or bad could happen. Most of the time it's bad, like you lose career points, but sometimes if another player has drama you could benefit from it. While playing you earn points in those three categories. The more points you get the more you can buy when you get to the shops which are also on the game board. There you can buy a boyfriend, a best friend and accessories for your career, like a camera. But don't get too excited because you can also lose all of them when you play the game again. Sometimes you earn secret cards which you can play to either steal another girls boyfriend or best friend or points. To move around the board you spin a wheel. You choose which path you want to take and it moves you, if you don't land on a drama square you earn points in that paths category. At the end of the game it adds up your points including how popular your boyfriend is and how many bff's you have. Whoever has the highest is the winner. When you play a new round in the story mode, your boss will give you another objective, like using your boyfriend's popularity on the board.
The reason why i gave this game such a low rating is because it doesn't tell buyers it's nothing more than a board game. If I had known that I probably wouldn't have spent my money on this game. I'm sure this game would be more fun if you were playing against your friends, but as far as a game you can play by yourself, it's not a very good one. It just gets old after a while.
