Great series, but disappointing version.
I am a huge fan of the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series of video games. I think EA Sports really hit a home run in developing a realistic game that is fun to play. Especially when they added the analog swing control, the game has been of the utmost authentic feel. However, this year's version disappoints me in several regards:
First, the analog swing has lost a lot of the feel that it had in past years. Swings which used to result in a perfect shot are suddenly coming up at 75 strength, leaving me in bunkers or poorly short of the green. The consistency on the swings is also lacking, as sometimes my swings result in drives that go 200, and sometimes 300. Not even close.
Second, putting has become much more difficult. Downhill putts fly by the hole, while uphill puts feel like they won't move. The loss of the perfect putt camera also hurts, although it does add to the realistic nature of the game.
Lastly, although there were a number of fantastic courses available right off the bat (St. Andrews, TPC Sawgrass, Doral), the big courses that everyone wants to play (Bethpage, Oakmont, Torrey Pines) are not available apparently until you unlock them in PGA Tour mode. That is not cool. When I shell out $40 for a video game, I hate to see that some features are locked out until I play the game for a solid day or two.
Ultimately, I don't think you'd go wrong with buying Tiger Woods 10 if you're a first time player, but if you're a returning player, there are too many negatives to buy this version. Stick with your older games, and you'll be just fine.
Tiger Woods 2010
Graphics are not as good as they were in 2009, and the 'come-on' lines at EA Sports web site let you believe that the Predator and several other top courses are included, but they aren't on PSII. They appear to be on PSIII and Wii and XBOX. The fact that I haven't upgraded th PSIII shouldn't penalize me, but it does. The game is still fun, just could be better.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10
It's good. I really like the Tiger Woods PGA Tour set. The only thing, it's almost exactly like TW PGA Tour 9.
