![]() | Beginning iPhone Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK by Dave Mark
Buy new: $26.39 / Used from: $12.98 Published November 14, 2008, by Apress. Tremendously popular, and my first favorite. (Updated version is item # 8 on this list. Item # 18 is a sequel.)
The first two-thirds guides you through iPhone OS 2.x programming in general especially the display. Later chapters cover more advanced topics, but NOT networking.
Clearly written, but sometimes cute. Supported by authors' web site.

![]() | iPhone SDK Application Development: Building Applications for the AppStore by Jonathan Zdziarski
Buy new: $23.09 / Used from: $13.94 Published January 19, 2009, by O'Reilly. This book is on developing with the SDK, even though the author a leader in the development of software for 'jailbroken' iPhones seems hostile to this approach.
The author presumably has deep knowledge of the iPhone OS.
Focuses more on gaining a deep understanding of the SDK than on developing apps. Seems to skimp on file I/O.
