This was the game to play. If you didn't play it, you weren't cool, and if you weren't cool, you probably listened to *N'SYNC back then. Admit it, you did. If you liked Bioshock, you'll love this one - Bioshock is this game's spiritual successor.
Deus ExDeus Ex
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $0.99
Forget Dan Brown and Umberto Eco or whatever you kids are reading these days. This game is a conspiracy theorist's wet dream. It's smart, funny, and fast.
Final Fantasy VIIFinal Fantasy VII
Buy used from: $50.00
This is the RPG on which all RPG cliches are based. Dorky, moody, spikey haired protagonists all have Cloud to thank.
StarCraft Battle ChestStarCraft Battle Chest
Buy new: $19.35 / Used from: $8.99
If you haven't played Starcraft, you are probably way too old or way too young. Do yourself a favor and pick this up.
Diablo 2Diablo 2
Buy new: $15.75 / Used from: $6.25
Remember when all your friends were playing this game and you were too busy listening to Creed and they ignored you for the rest of high school? Pick this game up and get back in their favor - those goons are probably STILL playing this game.
Golden Eye 007Golden Eye 007

"Man, I'm bored." "Want to see what's on MTV?" "Nah probably just Real World: Seattle. I'm sick of watching that black guy slap that chick with Lyme's disease. They play that episode like every day." "Yeah...Goldeneye?" "AAAAH YEAH IT'S ON SON." Most of my conversations went like that.
Half-LifeHalf-Life
Buy new: $97.52 / Used from: $11.99
Remember how every corner you came across one of those face suckers jumped out on you and you fired your gun wildly screaming "DIE DIE DIE JUST DIEEEEEEE" and you weren't exactly commanding the alien to die, more like pleading with it? I think that only happened like three times the entire game but Jesus. It sure felt like it happened all the time.
FALLOUT 2FALLOUT 2
Buy new: $29.99 / Used from: $6.95
Back when the value of a game wasn't based on silly things like moderate learning curves or modesty and more on humor and engaging storylines. Before you play Fallout 3 (which has done the franchise proud in my opinion), play this one to get a taste of why Fallout 3 was so hyped to begin with.
