| The pro's all swear by the power, comfort and performance of high quality carbon kayak paddles from big names like Werner and Bending Branches. They do make very light and beautiful paddles for canoes and kayaks. Personally, I think the wooden kayak paddles are really lovely. The more affordable paddles from Carlisle and Harmony have served us well for paddling the local flatwater around our Oklahoma home, but you can't blame a guy for dreaming! Your mileage may vary. Do remember to make sure you get a two-piece paddle, if you need it to split apart for storage in the boat. Dianne and I only use two-piece kayak paddles, but she prefers a wide, stiff and heavy blade. I prefer kayak paddles that are light in weight with some flex in the blade. For most waters I paddle with a fiberglass Carlisle kayak paddle. For the rocky LMF River, I switch to an aluminum shaft, plastic blade paddle. Rocky rivers tend to chip the fiberglass blades. | ||
