| Cold water paddling should be treated with the extreme respect. The paddling apparel we use should never be taken for granted. If a Farmer John wetsuit is your only piece of cold-water apparel, pick kayaking days when the level of danger is lower. Always paddle with friends, carry extra dry clothes and stay within easy reach of shore. A Farmer John wet suit will protect you from the initial shock of cold water immersion, but only for a short amount of time! If the water or air temp is under 62 degrees F (18c) then smart kayakers wear something to keep them warm. Make sure whatever you choose will work on both dry days and days when you might unexpectedly swim! Wetsuits for kayakers normally offer neoprene that is thinner and they are usually sold as a one-piece, tank-top style with long pants called 'Farmer John's' or 'Farmer Jane's'.
