Album Description
Jazz guitarist Kenny Carr's "Turn the Page" is an original assortment of radio-friendly melodies with an underlying influence of blues as he draws upon his decade of experience playing guitar for Ray Charles. Turn the Page features 2005 Grammy-nominated tenor saxophonist, Donny McCaslin, as well as highlighting nationally renowned acoustic bassist Tom Baldwin. New York-based musicians, organist John Dryden as well as drummer Frank Russo, complete the esteemed list of talented musicians appearing on this CD. Much of the music on "Turn the Page" was written to highlight the acoustic bass, which on the CD becomes a vital foundation for the melodies.

"Turn the Page", Kenny Carr's sophomore release, is a much anticipated follow-up to his critically-acclaimed and well-received debut CD "Friday at Five".

About the Artist
Guitarist and composer Kenny Carr began playing violin at age nine, but by age eleven he realized his true passion was the guitar. Growing up in Santa Cruz with its inspiring natural beauty set the stage for Kenny's musical career. By his early teens, he was studying jazz theory with vibraphonist Rob Lautz as well as renowned trumpeter Ray Brown. He found himself surrounded by talented and aspiring musicians who became his closest friends. By age sixteen, he was performing at local venues where he met drummer Kenny Wollesen and bassist Anders Swanson, as well as 2005 Grammy nominated saxophonist Donny McCaslin. In 1981, Kenny and his fellow Santa Cruz musicians were invited to open up for Carmen McCrea and Freddie Hubbard at the Mount Tamalpais jazz festival.

After high school, Kenny attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. During his final year in 1986, he received the call to audition for Ray Charles. "I remember running onto the stage as Mr. Charles instructed me to `play the blues'," Kenny explains. He toured worldwide with Ray Charles as his guitarist for over ten years and is featured on "Just Between Us" and "Live at the Montreux Jazz Festival".

Customer Reviews

I play this CD at all my parties!4
I loved Kenny Carr's first CD (Friday at Five) but Turn the Page really shows how versatile he can be. There is a piece for every mood - my favorites are Cadiz Sunset, Turn the Page, Going Home, Lost Tuesday, and I love he kicks it up with Soho Strut, Bleeker Street and a couple others. This is one of my favorite new CDs and I'll definitely be giving this one out as Christmas gifts this year!
