Editorial Reviews

Album Description
"The finest wind ensemble collection I've ever heard...The demonstration-class sound...has to be heard to be believed...A no-brainer on my Want List." - Fanfare

"Stunning recording, both literally and figuratively. Get this!" - In Tune

"This may be the most mercilessly demanding recording of large instrumental forces that I know, with bass transients and dynamics so far beyond the current state-of-the-art in speakers and electronics that I suspect designers will still be catching up to it twenty years from now." - The Absolute Sound

"I am still tingling from that mighty avalanche of sound...Certainly this record is a technical triumph, as it is clearly intended to be, but the really exciting news is that it is a musical triumph as well." - Ultra High Fidelity

Seldom heard, powerful works for organ, winds, brass, and percussion - from classics to an over-the-top piece by hot American composer Michael Daugherty.

Crown Imperial is a follow-up to one of Reference Recordings' all-time best-sellers, Pomp & Pipes. America's premiere professional, full-time band is conducted by Jerry Junkin, the world's best-known band specialist.

The symphonic Fisk pipe organ in the Meyerson Symphony Center, Dallas, is played by its resident virtuoso, Mary Preston.

Knock-'em dead HDCD sonics by "Prof." Keith Johnson will thrill audiophiles of all persuasions, especially those with big subwoofers!

The Dallas Wind Symphony has established itself as the front-runner in the renaissance of the great American wind band. Founded in 1985, the ensemble became fully professional with the naming of Jerry Junkin as Artistic Director in 1990.

The legendary Frederick Fennell served as principal guest conductor from the mid-1990's until his death in 2004.

This recording gets a 5 for outstanding sound but a 2 for performance. Crown Imperial is turned into a funeral dirge instead of the march that it is. I kept waiting for the piece to pick up some excitement but it never did.

The performances sound spectacular, as long you can stay awake.

Band and organ fans rejoice!5
I've just finished listening to the Dallas Wind Sympony's newest CD Crown Imperial. And, there's just one word for it - wow! The combination of one of the best concert bands around, the musicianship of Maestro Junkin, the skill of Mary Preston on the Lay Family Concert Organ, the acoustics of the Meyerson Symphony Center, and the recording know-how of the Reference Recording team has combined to create stunning CD. Turn up the volume and listen to music spanning the last 400 years. Pay special attention to the close of each piece as the Reference team has done an incredible job of capturing the reverberation that extends well after the piece is completed. If you like concert band music, buy this CD now!

Superb5
Fantastic recording. Mary Preston always bring out the BEST that the Meyerson Organ has. There are not enough superlatives to describe this recording. I was hesitant at first to purchase it because I was not familiar with some of the pieces; however, I am more than glad I did.
