![]() | Tea for the Tillerman [Deluxe Edition] by Cat Stevens
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $9.98 I have the original CD, the remaster, the Mobile Fidelity gold disc, and now this. Up to this point, the Mobile Fidelity version was the best sounding. No more. This Deluxe Edition tops it by a wide margin.

![]() | Crown Imperial by Dallas Wind Symphony
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $10.50 One of my favorite CD's of any genre - period. Some of the most emotionally engaging music I've ever experienced, and the recording/mastering is of benchmark quality. Highly recommended.
![]() | Full House by Wes Montgomery
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $6.52 The Keepnews Collection is the newly remastered recordings of the great Riverside label. At this point, there's no indication of how many titles are going to get a sonic make-over, but the ones released so far are of the highest sonic quality. Riverside made the finest recordings of the late 50s, and these remasters are of impeccable audiophile quality. The result is amazing.
![]() | David Gilmour by David Gilmour
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $6.59 If you like this album, you need this remaster. It was done by Doug Sax, and he did it right. It blew by my expectations and left me in awe. I was simply looking for an improvement when I ordered it. I never expected THIS!
![]() | N'Awlinz: Dis Dat or d'Udda by Dr. John
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $4.74 This has a lot of charm and textures, and fortunately it was well recorded and mastered, enabling us to enjoy this gem to the fullest. Dr. John is the real deal.
![]() | Folk Singer by Muddy Waters
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $3.99 Amazing. Not only is this one of the best sounding CD's in my collection, it may be the best blues performances I've come across. Hi-res with beaucoups of presence, depth, and air. Absolutely no grain or glare.
![]() | Mahler Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection" / Kaplan, Wiener Philharmoniker (Multichannel Hybrid SACD) by Mahler
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $10.91 This is the best sounding classical disc I've ever heard. It blows away everything else in my classical collection. It'll draw you into this great performance of Resurrection.
![]() | Really Big! by Jimmy Heath
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $5.32 Another fine example from the Keepnews Collection
![]() | Waltz for Debby by Bill Evans
Buy new: $31.98 / Used from: $17.99 Doug Sax mastered this Analogue Productions hybrid SACD using vacuum tube equipment before converting it to DSD. The recording is from 1961, so it was recorded using tube equipment, and the mastering compliments it well. The instruments sound very real and the soundstage is deep. Analogue Productions also released "Live from the Village Vangaurd" and "Moonbeams", and they are incredible as well.
![]() | Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie
Buy used from: $60.98 Finally, a great sounding Ziggy. My jaw must have dropped when FiveYears began on my first listen.
![]() | Live at Massey Hall 1971 by Neil Young
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $4.85 Neil's first release in this live series was recorded OK, but it was a bit strident to these ears, and somewhat compressed. This Massey Hall acoustic performance was recorded by David Briggs, and he didn't do a hap-hazard job. It sounds phenomenal! This disc has presence, depth, and air - this is audiophile grade, and Neil's performance is incredible (seriously). This is Neil at his peak.
![]() | Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Buy new: $31.98 / Used from: $19.00 This is by no means audiophile quality, but...
Analogue Productions has issued all of CCR's studio albums in Hybrid SACD utilizing the mastering skills of Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, and they sound much better than anything before. The K2 20 bit remasters of these were extremely harsh and compressed, but this series exhibits no glare and sounds much more natural.
![]() | Machine Head by Deep Purple
Buy used from: $86.39 The soundstage actually has depth, and the instruments sound natural and have their own space. The crowded mix of previous CD's and vinyl pressings is a thing of the past. Highly recommended!
![]() | Who Do We Think We Are by Deep Purple
Buy new: $19.98 / Used from: $17.57 Rhino screwed up the latest remaster of this, but Audio Fidelity got it right on this gold disc. Another Steve Hoffman remaster.
![]() | Eat a Peach by The Allman Brothers Band
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $12.10 This blows all other versions out of the water. I haven't heard the hybrid SACD of this, but I don't see how it could top this.
![]() | Love by The Beatles
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $6.75 This is a sonic treasure. It demonstrates how well the Beatles were recorded and how good the forthcoming remasters of their catalog could sound.
![]() | The Complete Blue Horizon Sessions by Fleetwood Mac
Buy used from: $76.19 If you like British blues from the sixties, this six disc set won't disappoint, and it's priced right. A very good recording and remaster.
![]() | Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $9.49 This mono 1956 recording is excellent, and the hybrid remaster is immaculate.
![]() | One More from the Road by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $10.01 They went back to the multi-tracks for this one. It sounds like you're at the Fox.
![]() | Bartók: Concerto for Orchestra; etc. [Hybrid SACD] by Bela Bartok
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $7.55 This is just one disc in a steadily growing series. The RCA vaults are brimming with super high quality Living Stereo recordings, and this hybrid classical series is an audiophile godsend. These were recorded in the 50's and early 60's on high quality stereo tube equipment, and in spite of their age, they sound better than the vast majority of discs in my classical collection.
![]() | Monk's Music by Thelonious Monk
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $55.71 This 1957 stereo recording was done very well, and this hybrid is awesome. This is also my favorite Monk album.
![]() | New Riders of the Purple Sage by The New Riders of the Purple Sage
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $4.99 Wow! Why did the original CD issue of this sound so flat?
![]() | Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $6.99 While this may not be an audiophile recording, this 2002 remaster is such an improvement over the original that I had to include it here. The Stones remasters sound pretty good, for the most part, but this one especially benefits due to the master tapes resurfacing after being lost for over 30 years.
![]() | Avalon by Roxy Music
Buy used from: $84.99 A lot of time, money, and effort went into the making of Avalon, but previous versions didn't do it justice. This hybrid reveals the beautiful production of this jewel.
![]() | Tommy by The Who
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $15.10 A jaw-dropping experience. This hybrid caught me totally off-guard. This is what the master tapes must sound like.
![]() | Hummin' to Myself by Linda Ronstadt
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $1.86 Her latest foray into the standards, it sounds like they went totally first class with equipment and recording technique. Very hi-res with a vast soundstage.
![]() | Frank Sinatra Christmas Collection by Frank Sinatra
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $5.99 Except for the first track, this compilation sounds great. The first track came from a tv special, so that can be expected. The studio stuff was recorded up to the Chairman's usual high standards.
![]() | Live at the Continental Club: The Austin Experience by Junior Brown
Buy new: $17.98 / Used from: $5.99 This CD didn't disappoint me - it's great music and it's a lot of fun to listen to. The sound quality is stellar too. It was recorded directly to DSD at the Continental Club, and I must say that it's the best live recording I've ever heard. Just what you'd expect from the folks at Telarc.
![]() | At War with the Mystics by The Flaming Lips
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $2.44 This CD borders on redbook greatness. They mastered it a little too loud, but the soundstage is VERY wide and it's obvious they put a lot of effort into the sonics of this disc. A friend tells me the DVD-A of this is excellent.
![]() | Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek and the Dominos
Buy used from: $8.75 This DSD remaster is the best sounding Layla - by a wide margin. I've been waiting for an acceptable sounding CD version for a long time, and this is it.
![]() | My Funny Valentine: Miles Davis in Concert by Miles Davis
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $4.96 DSD remixed and remastered, this is a wonderful recording and live performance.
![]() | Coltrane Plays the Blues by John Coltrane
Buy used from: $15.87 The Atlantic Jazz Gallery is a series from Atlantic Records that sounds very good. I have albums from this collection by Mingus and Coltrane, and they both deliver.
